“Makes you think...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Every once in a while you have a meal that reminds you that the vast majority of humanity now and throughout history have had very limited food options and that even those of us firmly in the modern middle class have dining choices now that were completely unavailable to the even the wealthiest not so long ago. It makes you grateful to live in an age, and in a place, where you can walk into a restaurant, just a normal person, sit down, and have a meal at a place like Staple and Fancy. Try the chef's tasting menu - brilliant. Many of the items were challenging and unusual, but everything was superb. Service was excellent. Hyperbole aside, very highly recommended.

“A meal to dream about!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

My spouse surprised me for a "significant" birthday with a dinner with friends at this restaurant. Unbelievable and one of the best meals of my life. We had the Chef's tasting menu and from the first bite to the last, fabulous pairings of flavors. The ambience of the restaurant was just what I love, dim but not too dark, and small enough to feel intimate but not claustrophobic. I was worried by "tastes" that the food would be "precious" and not enough of it for the guys but there honestly was almost too much! One of our friends actually stood up and let his belt out a notch after the pasta course. Not for picky eaters (we had beef tongue and pork cheeks for the meat course) but they did ask before the meal if there were any allergies or foods that anyone didn't like. If you like adventurous dining at a great value for the money, make your reservations now before they realize what a deal this is for one of the top restaurants in Seattle!

“one of the best in Seattle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Ethan Stowell has been in the business for a long time and with good results. Staple and Fancy, with not a large menu, serves outstanding food paired with excellent wines. Whether one orders off the menu, or lets the kitchen prepare a series of dishes paired with wines (1/2 or whole glasses), one can't miss. We've done it both ways and were delighted each time. S & F is always on our restaurant list when we visit Seattle.

“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Wow. Go for the Chef's tasting special, "Fancy" and let them choose your 8 course dinner, all for under $50. Exceptional food and service. Each dish was over-the-top good. We could not have eaten another morsel of food. Every course was light but simply too good not to eat it all. Interior was warm and cozy with direct viewing into the kitchen area. Go. Go. Go. Will definitely go back on future visits to Seattle.
