“Decent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

The location of this hotel was good, although more removed from downtown than we anticipated. Once we figured out the trolley and buses, it was fairly easy to travel about. What we liked most about this hotel is that it offered separate bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. It was nicely decorated and fit our needs perfectly. After some initial problems with the room assignment, we finally ended up with what we paid good money for...a suite with a proper view of the lake with a patio. *Beware* of the front desk clerks who try to give you less of a suite than you paid for. Don't be afraid to speak up! The breakfast buffets were adequate and offered a good variety of breakfast items. The hotel itself was very nice, and most of the staff were very nice and pleasant. There was construction going on while we were there, but since we were out during the day, it wasn't an issue.

Since we did not rent a car, we took full advantage of the public transporation. We did utilize the car service that the hotel works directly with for airport/hotel transfers. It was great to be picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel without having to worry about driving in areas unknown. They will also take you wherever you want to go, for a fee, obviously. We did use them to get to the ferry rather than taking the bus. Super simple and worry free.

All in all, we had a good experience at the hotel. If I return to Seattle with friends, I would stay here again. But going with my spouse, I would likely stay somewhere downtown.

Even though there was construction going on around the hotel, it was not a problem if you are not driving. Took the trolley that runs in front of the hotel, and got off at westlake center at the monorail station. Took the monorail to the space needle. EASY. Then came back to the monorail station and walked to the market.
Had a 2 bed 2 bath room. Very nice. Best breakfast buffet. This was our third hotel in a week. Started in Sacramento, to Lemoore then on to Seattle. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Just ask for a room in the back while construction is going. Very quiet!

The location of this hotel was good but the construction happening all around downtown made it difficult to get around. This hotel is located very close to the water. The views were really nice. The rooms/hotel is dated & my room smelled a tad musty or perhaps someone had smoked in it. After spraying some perfume, it was fine. The bed was comfortable & wow is it quiet! I seriously slept for 10 hours & never heard a peep. There are a few restaurants located across from the hotel that are really nice. The hotel staff were really nice & helpful. The breakfast is decent with the usual breakfast staples.

Room Tip: Request a room with water views.

This is the second time I've stayed at this Residence Inn on Lake Union and I'm even more pleased this time. From check-in to check-out and everything was perfect. I had a very comfortable room with a balcony and view of Lake Union - I could watched the sea planes, sailboats and other watercraft from my balcony. Very relaxing! But what really keeps me going back is the service from the staff. They were truly interested in ensuring that I had everything I needed. And, i did. Thanks for another great visit!

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms that face Lake Union are great.

This was a good location to hit downtown, the close neighborhoods, or to hop on the highway in any direction. The room was very comfortable and clean for the three of us. The breakfast (included) had a much better selection than we expected. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: higher floors, less noise

The hotel is a little removed but the street car makes it easy to access downtown. The general look of the hotel is dated (early 90s). The furniture in our room was worn (tattered edges on the office chair and recliner) and our bed and the sofa were saggy. The breakfast is only good if you like sugar and carbs. Its hard to eat low quality scrambled eggs and sausage day after day. The plus side is that the kitchen is stocked with equipment to whip up your own meals. Or take the street car down to Wholefoods and let someone else do the cooking.

We were in between houses, furniture in storage, and needed 6 nights in a hotel where we could cook in and avoid eating out every day. The Residence Inn was a good choice for us, but our stay coincided with the really bad construction mentioned by other reviewers. It can only get better and the South Lake Union area is great. We walked along the water and also explored the new shops and restaurants by Whole Foods, as far as we felt like walking. The trolleys weren't running due to the construction but I think they are now and that's all you'd need to make an easy trip all the way downtown.

We had a spacious, attractive room for the 3 of us (King bedroom) and a more than adequate kitchen. The sofabed was not great, but the king bed was extremely comfortable. They try hard with the breakfast, offering lots of choices, but I'm not a fan of their fruit-- melon or pineapple soaked in some kind of preserving liquid instead of being cut up fresh every day. They serve a huge number of breakfasts so it isn't surprising that the food is mass-produced, probably off-site. The public spaces were well maintained and the front desk staff was always great. Because we were moving we had all kinds of stuff with us and managed to forget 2 filing boxes with important papers. The hotel called me immediately so we could retrieve them.

The parking garage was scary (tight spaces, very steep ramp and expensive) so we parked in one of the lots across the street. Keep going until you see the signs for Daniels Restaurant parking. It is the cheapest, although the unpaved lot was dusty and our car got filthy. Totally worth it, we saved at least half the cost of the hotel garage.

If you're new to Seattle, you might want to stay downtown, but for a different take on the city, staying in South Lake Union at the Residence Inn would be a good choice.
