“Nice Hotel, Great Staff, Needs a Facelift”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We stayed as a family for 5 nights. Unfortunately for the hotel there was some very loud construction on one side of the hotel and we needed to be moved. They were overbooked so the switch didn't happen fast, but that was not the fault of a very accomodating staff. We were very impressed with the complimentary breakfast. So many places offer simple basics that leave you hungry, not the Marriot. There were eggs, toast, waffles, bacon, sausage, egg sandwiches, muffins, juices, bagels, cereals, oatmeal, english muffins; simply a huge assortment and constantly being replenished. The lobby offers complimentary coffee all day, also much appreciated. Having the streetcar right out front was a huge bonus, it was clean and cheap to take downtown. We even utilized the BBQ one night and a staff member brought us the things we needed to grill. We had a 2 bed, 2 bath suite. lots of room and very well appointed and the beds comfortable. The room itself was modern, but the hotel itself is not updated. The main lobby and surrounding area needs to pump up the volume. Too many pinkish hues and brass. Overall, this hotel did not disappoint.

Just finishing up my stay at Seattle/Lake Union Residence Inn. Great hotel and staff was always VERY helpful. Although I had no complaints, I did hear a customer or two at the front desk that were having issues but it was apparent the front desk was always more than willing to fix the problem. For me the location was great--I felt very comfortable and safe being out in the area and when I needed to get to other locations the front desk was more than willing to take time to explain how to get to where I was going. The streetcar just steps away was wonderful to have.

Room Tip: I had a two bedroom suite and it was extremely spacious

Stayed here for 7 nights and had an enjoyable stay. Front desk was very helpful on multiple occasions. We took light rail from Airport to Downtown and then the Trolley to hotel ($2.75 and $2.50) so easy and cheap to get to. You can take Trolley downtown and transfer to bus on same ticket within 2 hours of purchase. Easy to figure out and with iPhone not hard to get anywhere in Seattle. The breakfast was good, staff really great. The only reason I don't give them a 5 is that the room was a bit dated and worn and they don't recycle. Really, in this day and age no place to recycle bottles, cans etc. That really needs to be fixed. Would stay here again without any hesitation. Yes there is street construction outside but never bothered us. Near the lake area for plenty of things to walk to but better yet take the very clean and efficient Trolley.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the lake if interested in views or the back if having quite location is mo...

While there was some construction going on in through area, we had no difficulty finding the hotel.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The rooms were very clean and the kitchen was fully equipped.

The gym was accessed via the swimming pool. It had 2 treadmills, 2 elliptical machines, 1 stationary bike and even 1 rowing machine.

The laundry was next to the gym on the 3rd floor. I would have given full 5 stars but there were a few dryers that were not working.

Location wise, it was very convenient to take the street trolley from outside the hotel to Westlake, and then walk the remaining 4-5 blocks to Pikes Place. We would also recommend Chandler's Crab restaurant in Chandler's cove across the street.

More like 4.5 stars! The suite was perfect for a group of 5 adults and the breakfast was wonderful. All for a very affordable price. The only reason we couldn't give it 5 stars was the location. Yes, public transportation is a few steps away and it was easy to use but we didn't feel like we were in an area that we'd enjoy walking around.

Just spent 4 nights here last week and were very impressed by the helpful and efficient staff, variety of breakfast menu, comfortable room & excellent location. We initially thought that the location would be a disadvantage due to the distance from downtown/waterfront area but it was actually a positive as it is quieter and still really close on the streetcar or by cab. The Space Needle complex is just a 15-20 walk. With teenagers, it is very helpful to have the separate bedroom and functional kitchen that the Residence Inn offers.

We would recommend Duke's Chowderhouse across the street as the most economical and family oriented of the nearby dining options. We enjoyed dining on the deck overlooking the water and especially the selections and value of the afternoon Happy Hour. We also loved Serious Pie (Westlake & Harrison) for brick oven pizza. It is a short walk of 5 or 6 blocks. Downstairs is the sister restaurant, Serious Biscuit which serves some of the tastiest breakfast biscuit creations I've tried. The restaurant is on the Streetcar route so it is easy to hop off going to or from downtown.

As another poster mentioned, the towels could use upgrading but that is a minor negative. We will look forward to returning to this hotel in the future.

P.S.: In reference to a previous poster, If you use the public transport - do the right thing and pay for it! As visitors we shouldn't freeload on Seattle's taxpayers.

I was just recently at the Residents Inn Lake Union and it ended up being a very nice place to stay for a long weekend.

The hotel sits across the street from Lake Union in an area that is under a lot, and I mean a lot of construction. The streets are all routed weird and it made for some frustrating times just getting onto the highway just a block from the hotel. When it is all completed it will be great though. Traffic in Seattle is horrible, so the construction is for sure justified.

Anyway the location is great. At first I was not sure about it as it really is not in downtown Seattle, but I found Lake Union a really cool area. There are boat tours and sea plane tours only a few minutes walk away, they are very fun. The lake is busy and fun to just sit and watch. To get downtown you could certainly walk. We drove each time and parked downtown and walked around from there. It was never an issue.

Now getting into the hotel itself. The hotel is a fair size you realize as you walk it with its large open area all the way to the top floor. The receptionist was just about as perfect as you can get. Extremely kind and jovial. She made for a painless check in. Upon checking in we were informed it would cost around $20 a night to park in the garage. You pretty much had to park in the garage as there is not a realistic alternative. Otherwise check in was great.

My family and I got a complimentary upgrade to a two bedroom room which was perfect for the four of us. The rooms in the hotel had been newly updated, so it gave the older hotel a much newer feel. Both bedrooms had king size beds. They also had nice LG flat screen TVs. The two bedroom also had two bathrooms each attached to the two bedrooms. The bathrooms were a little disappointing as the ceilings were lower and felt a little tight. They were very clean, updated, and functional. The living area had a pullout couch, chair, table with two chairs, two barstools for kitchen counter, desk, and a fully equipped kitchen. For our specific room, which I recall being 334, had a good sized kitchen with every appliance, this includes a dishwasher. Plates, utensils, cups, etc. are also included. We had the lake view which was nice, also had a view of the Space Needle. The outdoor space was not very impressive. It was long, but not wide. Great for standing, but that is about it.

Overall the hotel was a very nice one for vacationing in Seattle. I would recommend it if you would like to see the areas outside of the immediate downtown area and are okay with a few minute walk to downtown. It really is a great place to stay.
