The museum is free, what a treat. A beautiful space, centrally located and we saw a great Isamu Noguchi in Beijing exhibit. Also the cafe has delicious food.

“Art and Architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

The Frye has a very nice collection and it is housed in a very solid piece of Architecture. Olson Kundig did a great job with the addition.

“A small and nice museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

I visited Frye Museum and enjoyed it.
It’s a small museum housed in a nice building, located at 704 Terry Avenue, in a neighborhood called First Hill.
Its architectural history and alterations are in themselves an interesting subject to those interested in the theme.
Its origin is the Art collection of Mr Charles Frye and his wife Emma.
The Frye’s collection is said to be composed entirely of “representational works” and specialized in American and German Art, encompassing paintings and sculptures from 19th and 20th century.
It includes paintings by artists such as Eugène Boudin, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Albert Bierstadt, Franz Xaver-Hoch, Cleveland Rockwell, Sydney Lawrence, among others.
Besides the original collection, visitors find also temporary exhibitions of contemporary Art in the Frye Museum.
A nice and curious aspect is that the owner established in his will conditions in accordance with the collection should be exhibited, concerning the lighting conditions, the disposition of the artworks and, last but not least, that admission should always be free.
So, if you love Art and have extra time in Seattle, I believe you may enjoy visiting it.
There are Art books, catalogs and even books about the Museum’s architecture for those interested in it.

“Just the right size and free too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

The Frye is a perfect place to go if you have an hour or two. It is not large, 6 or 7 good size gallery rooms. It usually will have most of the museum showing the work of a single artist. We saw the work of late 19th/early 20th Century artist Franz von Stuck. Parking is easy and the museum is free. Well worth a trip.

“and it's free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

frye used to be stodgy museum endowed by wealthy early 20th century meatpacker. nice representational art. landscapes classical themes, ho hum, but free admission.
about five years ago the frye exploded into wow. Adventuresome contemporary themes. thoughtfully curated. Example: Henry Darger's Vivian Girls. Most interesting of any free attraction in Seattle. It'd be a bargain at twice the price.
