“excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

I once had a bad experience with hostel accommodation, so i was very nervous about the green tortoise. fortunately, it turned out to be amazing! it was really cheap for such a cosy place. the bunk bed and bathroom was clean and the service was efficient. the other tenants were very friendly, i enjoyed chatting with some of the people i met there. most importantly, the location is amazing. my first morning there was the best morning i've ever had. right across was a cosy coffee shop and then the pike st market is literally right in front of the hostel. if you are just looking for a simple, cheap, exciting place to stay, green tortoise is perfect!

Recently stayed at the hostel with my wife and 2 boys ages 16 and 21. We stayed in a 4 person room that had 2 bunks. Each bunk had its own fan, light, and outlets. I choose the Green Tortoise for its location and price, but was concerned that it was not family friendly. I was very pleased with our stay, but don't expect the Marriot. The street noise was loud, and you had to wait for a bathroom. That being said the staff was great. Nigel checked us in at 12:30 am and was very friendly. The bathrooms, rooms, and common areas were clean. The best part is the location right next to Pike Market and many other attractions. Public transit is nearby as is public parking. Great news is that a Target has gone in right next door. I felt safe walking the streets at all hours, but there are many people seeking money in the area. I would definately stay here again.

Clean tidy rooms, well laid out, with privacy in bunk rooms, make this a comfortable place to stay. Staff are very hard working, helpful, and very pleasant to deal with. Free breakfast each day and free dinners three nights a week are very popular. There are a number of cafes nearby claiming to serve 'Seattle's Best,' but right next door is Seattle Coffee Works which is much better than most. The markets are just across the road, and public transport is very handy to get you around the city. this is a busy hostel, book early!

This hostel is located a 1/2 block from Seattle's Public Market in the heart of the tourist area. It is clean, has comfortable beds, each with a privacy curtain, light, and fan. The common area has plenty of seating area, a TV, internet access, a big kitchen for cooking meals if desired, and free dinners 3X/week. The staff is friendly and so is the international hostelers that stay there. There is no free parking. This is a wonderful hostel.

Went on a Gf trip here for the first time. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions about area restaurants and shops. The free breakfast every day and free dinner 3 x a week were great for having more money for awesome excursions into other areas of Seattle. Highly recommended for value, cleanliness, community and adventures specially priced and hosted by hostel personnel.

Stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel for a night. We booked a 8-bed room and luckily all of us know each other because the beds are very close to each other and the room was very small. Still, the bed was comfortable and the location of the hostel is excellent since it is right in downtown. Breakfast in the morning was good too. The ingredients for making pancakes, toast, eggs, etc were provided. We just had to cook them ourselves. Also, we met other international students and had a great conversation with them over breakfast. I would recommend this hostel to other international students looking for a budget and convenient place to stay.
