“Great hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Melodee, the owner of this beautiful b&b, has a great sense of hospitality the breakfast is a great moment! You find everything you'd like to eat on the table. The room we stayed in was really nice, with room enough for the roll away bed for our daughter. The location is in front the park, so in sunny days you Houston have to cross the street to lay on the grass and take a nap under the sun. I think it is the best place to stay in Seattle.

Our daughter recently moved to a small apartment in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, so when visiting her from out-of-town we reserved Mildred's. Based on reviews, we requested the Green room but it was taken so we reserved the Rose Room. It is very private since it is the only room on the 3rd floor of the house, but since the stairway up to that room is very steep and narrow, its not recommended if you are carrying a large piece of luggage. The room itself is lovely, spacious for 2 (although it can accommodate 3) and the bed is very comfortable. There is plenty of Victorian charm and atmosphere in the little alcove under the eaves that overlooks Volunteer Park. There is also a little terrace with a table and chairs that would be nice for sitting out in summer. The bathroom though not large or totally updated, is fine and sufficient to one's needs. Melodee is as warm, gracious and helpful in person as she was over the phone when we reserved. She serves a delicious continental breakfast - oatmeal, yummy breads and home-baked goods are a fine start to the day. The home-made jams are also noteworthy, A roaring fire in the common area is toasty and welcoming on a rainy, dreary Seattle afternoon. Having Volunteer Park right outside the door is a major plus. All in all, a wonderful weekend at Mildred's.

We stayed at Mildred's for a spur of the moment trip mid July. I spoke with Melodee who was warm and enthusiastic and very accommodating. We arrived to find this large beautiful home with a lovely garden and a welcoming entry! The smell of freshly baked cookies greeted us at the door! The common area downstairs is comfortable with various seating options and a dining room. The front porch has a wrap around deck with comfy seating as well. We spent several hours on the porch having wine and chatting with other guests. We stayed upstairs in the Green Room which was spacious and quiet, the bathroom was quite large too! Everything was immaculate! This neighborhood is fantastic! There is a great park across the street with walking paths and lush landscapes. We parked our car right there at the house (ample free parking)
and rode the trolley bus 15 minutes to Pike Place Market for dinner and the return stop was literally at our front door. There are several restaurants closer by, but we wanted to go into the city. Mildred's B&B is in such a sweet & safe
location .. We were very happy to have discovered this gem!!

The owner and her family were real nice. Breakfast is basic. Location is great. Room and bathroom were detached ( lace room) but no big deal and real clean and spacious.

We stayed one night in July. Most other B&B's were booked but we managed to get a room at Mildred's. The best part of the place is the location, just across the street from Volunteer Park in the great neighborhood of Capitol Hill. We went for a couple walks in the park and it was great. Melodee is perfectly nice and was helpful with our situation.

We had the Rose room which is up on the third floor. It's a nice, good-sized room, even has a little balcony on top where we had coffee in the morning. It's a bit overdone, however, looks more like a twelve-year old girl's room than a guest room. Also there are two skylights in the room which are great for bringing in natural light, but are like spotlights in the morning, too. Don't plan on sleeping in.

We'd originally booked a blue room but found out the room does as advertised have a private bathroom, but it's not en suite. Luckily the rose room was available, but be careful if you book that one.

Breakfast was just coffee and a few store-bought pastries and some fruit. OK, but less than expected.

Overall it was fine, but for what you get it was pretty overpriced. $30 less a night and it would be a decent deal. Find the cat, he's awesome.

Room Tip: The rose room is up some very narrow stairs, careful if you have lots of luggage or not good with st...

No shared breakfast with innkeeper; not as open-hearted than other B&B; nevertheless beautiful house, nicely furnished and great neighborhood!

This is our second stay at Mildred's and we already made arrangements to return in December. Not only is it a great location, but the proprietress is delightful. The breakfast is wonderful as well... Coffee is delivered to your door in the morning and fresh made cookies are in the cookie jar at the top of the stairs. Parking is very good and public transportation is right out the door... Thanks Melodee for another great stay!!!
