The Silver Cloud hotel (University District) is in a good location, walking distance from University Village (an upscale shopping area with many choices for shopping and dining) and is walking distance to many other restaurants. It is close to the University, but to go to the main campus there is a 20+ minute walk up a very steep hill.
Checking into the hotel, the service was friendly enough, although the charm was turned on only after the receptionist realized that I was a guest. The hotel is a little tired looking and is in desperate need of updating. The room was nothing notable, though again tired. I was surprised to find Aveda products, but the only bath products they left was one little bar of soap and a lotion – no shampoo or conditioner.
The breakfast was free – who can fault a free breakfast – but it was unorganized and made getting breakfast difficult when there were multiple people. Checking out, I encountered a very surly young lady who gave an attitude when I asked about a receipt.
This hotel had the important amenities that I look for in a hotel when I travel (free internet, free parking, microwave, refrigerator), but I am unlikely to choose this hotel again.
It’s not a bad hotel, but this traveler simply was not impressed.

We are extremely disheartened that this guest experienced less than a high quality stay with us. While the issues of the property's aesthetics for this guest are, clearly, being addressed with a thorough renovation to the hotel occurring over the next few months, the service level experienced by this guest is disconcerting. It is our objective to provide the highest level of quality service to every one of our guests and that they each deserve. Although it is not an excuse, when a reservation is made through a third party, we are not able to provide an invoice as the room charge was processed by the third party. The third party utilized, however, is always able to provide either a reciept or additional copy of the receipt upon request. Regardless, we clearly did not clarify this information in a correct manner.

We definitely hope that this guest will allow us the opportunity to redeem ourselves with a future visit to our hotel and see for themselves first hand our ongoing improvements as well as the quality level of service we pride ourselves on providing - and that they are entitlled to experience on each and every visit with us.
