“Good Location, room layout odd”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2009

I stayed at the Olive 8 for two nights - in a corner king room. The room was nice, but the layout was such a waste of space! The 'extra' square feet was in the entrance and hallway, but NOT in the actual space where it would have been more beneficial - bigger sitting / sleeping area perhaps? Imagine the heat/air wasted in the entrance and hallway - total waste! The bathroom was ok - no shower pressure to speak of, spend three times longer to take a shower, another waste. The toilet smelled funny after use - like sewage. I don't know if I would stay here again, as booking a bigger room was just given a total waste of space for more money! The hotel staff is very good and so is the location, but I am sure better deals for same size rooms are out there.

Thanks for the review; sorry you were disappointed with the layout of the room. We have a lot of families and cruise ship guests, and the extra space in the foyer is designed for those who have a lot of extra luggage, yet the room still has lots of extra space in the sitting area/bedroom. I apologize for the issues with the shower and toilet; the shower head is a low-consumption shower head and nearly all our guests have commented that they cannot tell the difference. As for the heating and air, you can rest assured that this hotel is one of the most energy efficient hotels in the country, having just achieved LEED Silver Status.

The exterior and interior of this hotel are excelllent. Very modern and minimal, yet still very inviting. The lobby and restaurant downstairs are both fantastic. The front desk staff and concierge are very good. The gym is THE best gym that I've been to in a hotel hands down.

I have two negatives about this place...

First, although the hotel itself is decently priced, everything else is waaaay overpriced. I ordered a simple bowl of oatmeal, a can of diet coke and a side of bacon to the room in the morning and it was $28! I ordered a Laphroig 10 year on the rocks at the bar and it was $20! Overnight parking is $33, which is bad, but to be expected I guess in the city.

Second, while the service at the front desk, concierge and bar are all great, the staff at the "wine bar" leaves something to be desired. They didn't know which cheeses or meats were which and it took them like 15 minutes to slice cheese and cured meat. Picky I know, but when you pay $16 for a tiny bit of cured ham and a slice of cheese, you expect them to know what they are talking about and serve it quickly.

All in all, a fantastic hotel. Don't read too much into my complaints. The rooms and hotel overall are great. I would say that they should invest a bit more in their employees to match.

I'll definitely come back though... Probably again and again. Much better value than the W or similar joints.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the hotel. I agree with you on the fitness center, and I have stayed in quite a few hotels! As for your comments on the food and beverage pricing, we are currently reviewing our room service pricing. With regard to the wine bar, you are correct that with the quality of the items we are serving, we should be very knowledgeable about the products and will review our training in this area. Thanks again, we look forward to seeing you again!

Congratulations to a Hotel Chain that is making a difference!
Picked due to the LEED clasifications and some great online rates - the hotel did not disappoint. Beautiful building, great staff and some amazing amenities that would have me back in a heart beat. Starting with the exceptional customer service at both the valet and front desk, we felt immediatly welcomed and special. The building was absolutly stunning, from the blue glass exterior to the vaulted wood interior - a true modern classic. The rooms also did not disappoint - very luxurious and spacious - even if the bathroom only had a shower, but I especially liked the feature where you put your room key into the holder at the door to control the lights - on and off - so that you dont' waste electricity. The pool and hot tub areas were very clean and relaxing, with the changerooms having their own sauna and steam rooms, and lots of personal amenities at hand, made for a comfortable experience. The only draw back was the lack of storage space for clothing while you were swimming or in the steam room - the lockers were keyed for the spa users. The gym facility was top notch, with the latest equipment and open 24 hrs! The restaurant and bar service was good - and the food was great. Overall you couldn't go wrong with a stay in Seattle at the Hyatt @ Olive 8!

So happy to hear that you appreciate our LEED certification and that we didn’t disappoint. We are proud to be the first hotel in Seattle to receive that distinction and we challenge ourselves to be sustainable in every way while still offering a first class guest experience. Thanks for your kind and detailed review, and rest assured I will pass along your comments to the Chef at Urbane Restaurant!

I just returned from a 4 night stay at this property. The girl that checked me in on the late evening shift on 8/27 was nice as can be. (manager, please tell her that she is doing a great job....as a travel agent, I can't tell you how many hotels I've stayed at and how many of these check-in employees are just "okay". She was outstanding and you should tell her that her great attitude was noticed. It was a great start to an outstanding stay.) As a matter of fact, the entire staff, when encountered in the hotel, was very courteous and polite. Your valet drivers could use a little work when addressing guests but they are nice people.

Anyhow, the rooms couldn't be any cleaner. The housekeeping staff did an exceptional job. Every time we re-entered our room after a day on the town, it looked like it did when we first checked in. Also, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed having 8 or 10 or however many of those pillows were on the bed!! Very cool!

The bathrooms are very nicely appointed. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the walk-in shower but I'm sure others like them. Good water pressure, which is clutch.

The only negative I have about the entire stay...I called down one night and asked if you guys had meds for indigestion and was told that you didn't have anything like that yet. If you're going to charge $180 a night for a room, you need to step up and have that kind of thing available to your guests.

The pool area is awesome and the locker rooms are as clean as every other area of the hotel.

Great property. I would recommend it to friends and I would stay there again.

Stayed here for work meeting for 4 days. Hotel room was well done, on the plush side of average. Excellent gym facilities. Staff were mostly helpful and friendly. Good location in downtown Seattle.

Didn't like the charges for internet access (not wireless either). $10 per day for internet access is not acceptable these days as most hotels I stay in have free wireless and are not as expensive as a Hyatt.

This is a wonderful big chain hotel, with a small hotel feel. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful (from the valet to the coffee baristas). The room is very modern and comfortable. They have a wonderful "happy hour" at the restaurant that lasts until midnight - great food, and very accomodating service. The gym was very big with lots of equipment, and a very nice big indoor pool.

The location is very convenient - probably 8 blocks to the Pike Market, 2 blocks to the Westlake transit center & monorail - to go to the Space Needle - very fast & inexpensive. You have to try the light rail that leaves from the Westlake center to go to the sports stadiums - only $3.50/round-trip. Ask the concierge to reserve you a spot on the Argossy cruise to get a great tour of the Puget Sound.

The only negative about the hotel is the parking price - $33/night, and there's city tax and fees on top of it...total over $39/night! I know it's downtown, but that's a bit steep.

Try to check for the AAA rate which was about 20% cheaper than their normal rate. It's a great hotel - check it out.

Loved your review; your first sentence sums up exactly what our goal is our hotel. Glad that you tried out the light rail. It’s so convenient for our guests, many of whom are leaving their cars behind, which, as a green hotel, makes us very happy as well.

This was the first stop of six on an 18 night trip to Seattle and British Columbia. The room was exactly as shown on their web-site. It could not have been better for the money. Our only problem was that we were not able to get into the room until 5:00 PM. The location was perfect, and our only complaint was with the breakfast. The hotel does not offer a buffet, and does allow you to go to breakfast quite late. The service was very slow, and the food would rate as OK. I would definitely stay here again. Pay attention to your bill, we had the AAA package which included the breakfasts, and the breakfasts were on the bill at checkout. They removed them without a problem, but check your bill carefully.

Thanks for the kind regards. We are sorry that you couldn’t get into your room earlier; we try to avoid that but it will happen occasionally, and we apologize that it happened to you. As well, my apologies for the confusion on your bill. We greatly appreciate our AAA guests and will review to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
