“Location Matters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

There are plenty of places to stay in Seattle, but if you have choice you want to stay downtown and close to the action of Pike Place Market. The Homewood Suites offers you that and so much more. It is about 10 blocks from the market, but an easy 15 minute walk straight down Pike Street. And when you consider the rate compared to the Red Lion, Sheraton, or other closer hotels, you realize the extra walk is worth it. The rooms are spacious and room, consisting of basically a three room apartment (bedroom, living room, and kitchen) with two flat screens and excellent wifi in the rooms. A full hearty breakfast (to include eggs, bacon, and french toast) is included every day and Mon thru Thursday the manager offers a wonderful happy hour with beer, wine, and appetizers. The hotel is close to the highway, so you might ask for a room away from the highway to cut back on the road noise. My only disappointment was that I wasn't recognized as a Hilton Honors member (although my number was attached with the reservation) nor a complimentary upgrade like most Hilton properties do to recognize such loyalty. And the $32 a night for parking seemed excessive--even hotels in NYC that I stay at don't charge that much--but it is the going rate in Seattle. All in all, however, the Homewood Suites is a terrific bargain on your travel dollar, and you simply can't beat the location for the room rate. Stay here if you can!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face the highway to cut down on road noise.

Great hotel, good breakfast and dinner snacks. Horrible internet service. Tech support just said that the bandwidth was maxed and they would investigate. I never heard back. We also had a corner suite. The living room temperature was cool enough but the bedroom was too warm.

Kenneth G A,

I am extremely sorry that you had experienced internet issues during your stay. Our hotel had an issue with our bandwidth due to technical difficulties and the call-center for the internet service provider could not see or utilize the additional bandwidth. We have since resolved this issue and I certainly recognize that it does not help you that it was fixed after your stay. I do hope you will provide us another opportunity to show that our hotel services and amenities are better than what you experienced during your recent visit.

Warm regards,

Scott

This was our first time to Seattle and we were not not sure where to stay. After doing a lot of online searching, we found this hotel. It is a great place to stay and is convenient to everything downtown and the market.

Homewood Suites is in a great location near the convention center and on the edge of a residential area.

You are walking distance to several great restaurants (Terra Plata), coffee shops (Victrola Roastery), a pub (Six Arms) just right up the street.

This is a newer hotel with nice large rooms and lobby. The pool is only open in the summer since it is outside. They have a great breakfast every morning right off the lobby.

Parking is expensive at the hotel.

My room was fine, and the staff was nice. Unfortunately, though, there were some significant problems during my stay, at least two of which reflect, I think, that the hotel is simply not equipped to effectively handle full occupancy: First, the wireless network was at all times very slow, and at peak usage times it was so slow that it was unusable. The staff suggested that I use the business center computers on the grounds that they were wired and hence wouldn't be slow. But those computers were very slow too. I was told at one point that the network had been fixed, but the speed was only slightly improved, and then at a subsequent peak usage time, the network was again too slow to use. The hotel was at full occupancy, and the network was much less slow midday when far fewer guests were using it. This suggests that the wireless network is simply inadequate for a hotel of this size. A hotel should presume full or nearly full occupancy when determining the type or size of wireless network to maintain. I have stayed at many hotels and have encountered this problem only one other time. Second, the elevators took a long time to come to the floor, and on one occasion the doors of the elevator began to close as I was entering and they did not snap back but instead continued to try to close, almost crushing me. Third, the food at breakfast and dinner was not very good, though this is only a minor complaint because it's free, and I can't expect great cuisine for nothing. The staff tries hard and is pleasant. But on two occasions the front desk person that I posed a question to did not know the local area at all. Overall, things just weren't quite right, and I don't recommend this place, especially if you need good wireless access in your room.

Benjamin B,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback during your stay. I am extremely sorry that you had connectivity issues and I can assure you that this is not a common experience at our hotel. We had technical difficulties during your stay that were out of our control and we have since resolved them. I want to thank you for your kind comments about our staff and I certainly understand your frustration over the internet. Please accept my apologies and know that we work continuously to improve our product and services.

Homewood Suites proved to be a perfect and less expensive option near the Convention Center and close to many other downtown sites and restaurants and shopping. Taking the Link train is low cost way to travel between SeaTak airport and downtown, is an easy 10 min walk to Homewood Suites. Great breakfast and also dinners during the week. Ask for back room as those facing street have 24 hr traffic noise.

Room Tip: Back side rooms should be quieter

They have an excellent breakfast with fruit, yogurt, a good assortment of dry cereals, eggs, bacon,, or sausage or bacon, and oatmeal. You could add raisins, walnuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon to the oatmeal. Also there was an evening meal available Monday to Thursday. I would recommend that you request a room on the backside of the hotel because the traffic from I-5 was loud and constant all night.

Lawrence M,

Thank you for the kind words about our breakfast. I eat oatmeal every day for breakfast too, and I know what a great little extra it is to have the walnuts, sugar and raisin. Also, thanks for pointing out that our courtyard rooms offer that much more quiet in a downtown location; however, many of our guests enjoy the vibrant city side rooms with great views of Seattle. We look forward to serving you again soon.

Warm regards,

Scott
