“A delightful and delicious spanish-french restaurant on Capitol Hill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Olivar is a gem in the heart of Seattle. It is a wonderful tapas restaurant that features Basque flavors. Chef Philippe Thomlin is a magician, able to uniquely combine flavors to create wonderful dishes. We have never been disappointed by any of our numerous visits at his lovely restaurant.
His current summer menu is exquisite: the sea-scallops are so yummy, the merguez sausages all made in the kitchen are fantastic, as well as the sea-bass that was featured on the Specials board. And the toasted almond ice-cream is to die for...
And all of those very inspired and unique dishes are priced extremely reasonably.

“Capitol Hill find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We were delighted to find this little restaurant, on a friend's recommendation, right across from the Harvard Exit. Moreover, they're open late enough for people to dine as late as 10 p.m. after their movie. Three of us enjoyed their Spanish-style all plates - they have large plates too. And an outrageously rich crime brûlée made with. A strong Venezuelan chocolate. We told them we'd be back.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

This place is not on most folks' radars, but it is charming and serves and eclectic array of freshly prepared dishes. No a/c, but well worth the visit.

“Beautiful room/ delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

50 yrs ago this was the Russian samovar restaurant. The walls are covered with exquisite mural drawings from a Pushkin fairy tale. The food is imaginative...salt cod brandade, mushroom gnocchi with sundried tomatoes and grilled turnips, risotto with blackened walla-walla onion. It is a small restaurant, cozy and comfortable.

“Great food. Cozy place. Friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Late night get together. Be willing to share and dig into everything. It's family style and the food is great. Spanish tapas that highlight ingredients. Had lamb shank. Classic and good. The lamb meatballs on a bed of Marcona almonds was a highlight. The smoked bass and fettuccine was the only miss but it was a special so I hope was still in development. Desserts were good but not crazy to die for. The pineapple upside down with cilantro cream was the best. Paid parking is close by but if you can bus in. Great capital hill location. The mural on the wall is from 1930 from the Russian restaurant that was there
