“Home away from home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

I visit Seattle often and this place is like another home. Everyone working here is friendly, but professional. The location is close to everything but just on the edge so you are not surrounded by masses of people. The art in the rooms and around the hotel creates a fascinating atmosphere, always something different around the corner or down the hall. Craft beer from 5:30 to 6:30 with nice comraderie at the end of a busy day was a welcome addition. Although the rooms are smaller than the chain hotels, who's going to live in a room when the city has so much to offer. A lot to be said for coziness and well designed space.

Room Tip: Talk with the staff about what you want. Rooms on the south side face the street.

Such a great hotel and incredible staff. Also close to everything downtown. They had umbrellas you could use, gumballs for the Post Alley Gum Wall and free craft beer in the lobby in the afternoons. I mean...what else do you need??

Beautiful lobby/restaurant, but the rooms hardly seem boutique. Very small quarters, and the bathroom is a cruel joke if you are above 5 feet tall. Ads show funky, art inspired rooms; we had a painting on a wall. Ho hum...

I've stayed at both and love hotel Max. Free craft beer in lobby on arrival. Great decor. There was an Andy Warhol in the lobby. Cool atmosphere. Good food. Not crazy expensive. Would stay there again!

It is hard for me to understand the allure of something like Hotel Max. The rooms are very small, and you have top jump over the bed to get from one side to another. If you hope to have space to set up an ironing board.... forget it. And the bathrooms.... well, the bathrooms are a whole misery of their own. First, the standing prison-style all-stainless-steel sink with no place to keep a toothbrush are sure to provide enjoyment if you attempt to shave and brush teeth in the morning (but fear not the lack of space, that's what the toilet seat cover is good for, right?). Then, there is the shower, the 3ftx3ft shower tube with a plastic curtain. Yes, the kind that gets pulled in by the hot water shower draft and stick to your body during the shower. In the 3ftx3ft prison where you cannot shower without banging your elbows on the walls - forget about bending.

I am adding a star to the review because the furnishings looked to be of a good quality and the rooms were clean, but that alone cannot make up for the miserable experience induced by the cramped quarters.

Room Tip: Rooms at other hotels are better.

I am a frequent visitor to Seattle, but this is the first time I've stayed at the Hotel Max. I was there for three days this week.
Everyone I interacted with, especially the front desk, was extremely friendly and helpful--very customer service focused. I arrived fairly early in the morning, and there were some rooms ready. The front desk person actually gave me a key to one of the rooms so that I could see if I liked it, and I thought that was lovely of her.
The room was small-ish, but perfectly adequate and very well appointed. Whoever designed this hotel listened to travelers--I counted 8 different places for plugs/USB cords. Usually there is one socket hidden behind the night stand. In addition, I am a very light sleeper and very noise sensitive. I didn't hear a thing in the room, and between that and the blackout shades, slept really well.
The hotel is centrally located and very walkable to downtown and many major sights.
Plus, there is free local beer in the lobby every evening.
I will most definitely stay here on future trips.

Hey there BillyElliotFan!
Thank you so much for staying with us on your recent adventure to Seattle and giving the Max a chance. Furthermore, thanks for sharing your story with TripAdvisor. We are so pleased to hear that you found our team, especially the Front Desk, friendly and helpful. They pride themselves on being experts in the city and offering our guests recommendations only a local would know about.
Also, thanks for highlighting the design and layout of the room. Many of the enhancements we've added this past year were based upon feedback travelers like you provided.
Again, thank you for staying with us and we look forward to welcoming you back on future travels to Seattle.
Happy Holidays!

Great location for shopping and all that downtown Seattle has to offer, the federal court house, etc. Easy walk to Pacific Place center with shops, restaurants and theaters and downtown Macy's, Nordstroms and other major retailers. If you are shopping, easy walk to take packages back to room and hit the stores and restaurants again! Slightly 'quirky' in that front desk staff has facial piercings, tats, but very friendly, helpful and competent for quick check-in. Free wifi in room but the business center allows only 15 minutes a day free; after that you pay for internet access. They do offer free boarding pass print for your flight. Two elevators only and they are very small and very slow at times when housekeeping is using them to move from floor to floor. As mentioned earlier, rooms are small, as is bathroom but it works well for an individual travelling alone. If you are a couple or a large person, it could be very cramped. (Other hotels such as the Westin have much larger standard rooms). Room was clean and since I kept the fan on low at all times, it was quiet and I slept well except for occasional downtown emergency vehicle siren. In room snacks, water and room service prices were unusually pricey in my opinion but since food and snacks are available in an easy walk, it was not a problem. If you are looking for slightly 'different' hotel stay and ambience, this would fit the bill. Hotel hall walls are black and room doors have a different black and white screen print on each door. Clever idea and unique as you step off the elevator. My stay was fine but I would opt for a different hotel in the future mainly because of the poor elevators and small size of the room.

Room Tip: Back side of the hotel above 6th floor is quieter with some view of neighboring condo garden area.

Hey there GrandFan13!
Thanks so much for staying with us at the Max during your recent travels to Seattle. Overall, I'm sorry we missed the mark. We try very hard to be upfront and honest about what to expect when staying with us. Knowing that our rooms are smaller than our cookie cutter counterparts we prefer to focus on providing free wifi, craft beer hour and an awesome restaurant all under one roof. We've also got a local coffee program in the works. Additionally, as a smaller boutique hotel focused on providing guests with a truly Seattle experience we encourage our team members to let their personalities and interests shine through. After all, they are what make the Max rock.
Again, thanks for staying with us and we wish you a wonderful Holiday season and rocking 2015!
Cheers,
Kevin Scott
