“Delightfully Funky and certainly not corporate cookie cutter inspired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Max based upon a recommendation by Alaska Airlines. We were in town for a concert and had good luck taking recommendations from Alaska in the past. This hotel Once again did NOT disappoint. The lobby is decked out in Black and liquid Red and really creates a visual impression that is wonderful. The Front desk staff are dressed in Black Suits and Ties and very business-like, with a twist. Andrew checked us in and after the generalities asked us if we needed recommendations on anything. Because it was early in the morning, we asked for a good place for Breakfast. Without hesitation, he gave us Lowell's address and said it is a wonderful place to just sit and watch the bayside. The rest of the staff was equally as friendly including the housekeeping staff. The room was newly appointed in blacks; greys; and reds (wonderfully contrasting). The only downside, is it didn't have a small refrigerator. It had a pedestal "mixing bowl" sink and a small bathroom that if it hadn't been so delightfully, decorated would have seemed small. We thought the décor and staff attitude more than made this an incredibly wonderful stay and would recommend this without a doubt to anyone. Because this was an relaxing weekend stay, we didn't want the "Corporate Solution", and certainly didn't find it here. The lobby also had fresh apple water and gumballs all the time.

Nice hotel 10 minute walk to the town centre 15 mins from the Pike market. Great staff. Several good restaurants locally. Restaurant attached has a limited menu. We used this before going on to a cruise. The normal rooms are very small. We asked to be moved as we could not get our cases in the rooms. The bigger rooms were ok lucky we were there for only two nights. Very limited hanging space. Gods for a weekend way not one if you are going on a cruise.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We want our guests to be as comfortable as possible, so it was no problem at all to move you to another available room.

We have a lot of exciting changes coming up regarding our restaurant — The Miller's Guild will be opening sometime later this year (we're shooting for late November). We're all really excited about it, and I hope we can welcome you back to our hotel sometime soon so you can check it out.

Thanks again and if you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Until next time,
Roy Griggs

Stayed here for a business trip. The room is indeed small and the bathroom is also small. However, they use Aveda products for the toiletry! What a treat! I like the colorful deco but it is a bit worn out. Very pity. Some rooms offer space needle views!

Claire, thanks for staying with us during your business trip. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your visit, and we appreciate your feedback about our hotel.

We try to balance colorful decoration with inventive and artful design, but we don't want to come off as worn out. Were you able to check out our Sub Pop floor? I think you would have really appreciated the setup.

In any case, I hope we can welcome you back the next time business (or pleasure) brings you back to Seattle! Until then, take care.

Sincerely,
Roy Griggs

Just stayed 4 nights at Hotel Max , the rooms are so small and the noise level is high. I stayed on the street side of the building and asked to move rooms but hotel was full. I guess any hotel that has ear plugs beside the bed knows the level of noise is high. The room was clean and had good soft towels , staff are pleasent . They have old style AC .
Good location .

Tim, thanks for choosing to stay with us this past week. We want our guests to be as comfortable as possible, and we're sorry we weren't able to move you to another room. Although we'd love to have a completely noise-free hotel, the street noise heard from our historic building is unfortunately out of our control. That said, I hope the ear plugs helped you get a good night's rest.

Thanks for taking the time to review us here on Tripadvisor. If you have any other comments or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Hope we can welcome you back the next time you're in Seattle!

Sincerely,
Roy Griggs

Looks like this place was cutting edge stylish -- a few years ago. My room was very small and very noisy. Thin walls and loud pipes. Stayed here on business as my usual hotel was booked and the location was close to my meetings. Never again.

Guest comfort and satisfaction is our highest priority, so I'm disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy your recent stay with us. We can understand your frustration if you didn't get a good night's rest because of the noise or small room, but we wish you would have brought it to the attention of our staff.

Even though we're in a historic building (which limits the sizes of our rooms), we have many other designs and configurations available that we would have gladly shown you. We're always willing to accommodate and do whatever we can to make sure our guests are comfortable.

We appreciate your feedback though and hope you had a successful business trip. Come back and see us anytime.

Sincerely,
Roy Griggs

Walked all over the place. Walking distance to Pike and many restaurants in the area. There is a mall one block away. We even walked to the Space needle from here...it was a bit of a walk, but doable. Light rail from airport drops you off about 3 short blocks from here.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was not too small either. Bathroom was small, but hey, I really didn't lounge in there too much. My wife and 3 yr old daughter loved our stay!

The location of this hotel is wonderful. We had one of the larger rooms. That being said, all of rooms and bathrooms are small. The atmosphere and vibe of the hotel is worth the stay and worth the sacrifice of space. We were there for 3 nights and utilized the convenient market that was a half a block from the hotel. If you like boutique hotels then you will enjoy this place. I know that my family and I did.
