Located downtown, 5 blocks from Pike's Place Market and a couple of blocks from the monorail to the Space Needle, this hotel makes a wonderful base for a business or pleasure trip. Truly a boutique hotel, the room are small but well appointed, and decorated in continental modern style. The beds are comfortable and a choice of pillows and religious texts is offered on request. There is a mini bar, free internet and coffee, and a large flat screen TV. My bathroom was very small with a shelf barely large enough to accommodate my toothbrush etc. The shower was probably the minimum size required to accommodate a standing human! However, the water was instantly hot, and everything I needed was right at hand. My only gripe is the window air conditioner that was rather noisy, even at low settings, but was needed to keep the room airy, since the windows do not open. The hotel is very clean and the staff extremely friendly from the front desk to the chambermaids. The lobby is interestingly furnished with very eclectic furniture - ranging in comfort and practicality. It is decorated with high end prints (e.g. David Hockney) and art work. Red is the predominant color in the hotel and each room door is covered with an historical photograph, making it easy to locate your room. The in-house Japanese fusion restaurant is accessed by a "hidden" door from the lobby. It serves Oriental and American-style breakfasts. The food is good but the service tended to be slow.
This is a well priced, interesting hotel that makes a great change from the usual.

The manager must be very meticulous because every staff member cared about our experience, the hotel was spotless-clean and the attention to detail was obvious. The room was great and the windows open for fresh air. The restaurant manager went out of her way to help us find gluten-free options - the chef even modified a recipe for us! The Max is a great hotel.

Room Tip: We really liked room 717, a king bedded corner room.

I have stayed at Hotel Max 4 a few times. I prefer it to the Hilton downtown (I usually always stay Hilton). Hotel Max is a beautiful little boutique hotel. It is very modern in decor but has much character of an older palce. If you like huge rooms and huge bathrooms, this is not the hotel for you. Although the rooms and space are on the small side, I find it very cozy. The RedFin restaurant downstairs is pretty good. I have had dinner, happy hour and breakfast there and cannot complain. I will return to Hotel Max in a couple of months and cannot wait!

Room Tip: Choose a high floor, corner room.

I agree that the location is great for tourists but the rooms were small and the bathroom was incredibly small to the point one person could barely turnaround in ours(although others in our group had very slightly bigger bathrooms). Some street noise could be heard.

Forget the big chain hotels and stay where they pay attention and care. Rooms are very well appointed and staff is really great. Restaurant adjoined is a pleasure. Our favorite hotel in Seattle will make you a happy traveler.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights because it seemed to offer a fresh contemporary style. It was booked on our behalf by an agent as part of a package including the Rocky Mountaineer so I don't know how much it cost. The location is ideal, 5 minutes walk to the monorail to the Seattle Center, and the same to downtown and Pike Place market. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
Our room on Level 5 faced Stewart Street and it was noisy from very early in the morning but nothing worse than you would expect in a main street downtown hotel anywhere. The decor was refreshingly bright and the shower room was just about big enough. Good size comfortable bed. You need to be very careful in registering for the wifi facility - it will cost $35 per day unless you see a tick box that confirms you are "in a meeting". I missed it but we sorted it out.
The Red Fin restaurant attached to the hotel had faultless food and service.
The hotel staff were generally very friendly and helpful. If I returned to Seattle I'd have no problem staying here again.
