The 2 main reasons I picked this hotel was location and price.
It's directly across from the Central Library and steps from public transit. The hotel has seen better days, but it's acceptable, if you can handle a few issues. The lighting is too low, which I suspect is to make it harder for you to see the dingy stained carpets everywhere. There is a slight moldy/musty feel, but not so much as to make you want to leave. Staff are okay, but seem to be going through the motions. My room was a fine size, though the bathroom was tight, requiring some agility to get around inside it. If you're a big person, you'll find it frustrating. The heat and air conditioning were just fine, despite what some other reviewers have noted.
Big issues: When I arrived, the room smelled moldy and the small extra top blanket on the bed had some nasty surface stains. I threw it to the floor and left a note for the maid the next day to replace it. (She did.) I turned on the heat and opened the window, which aired out the smell. The smell was fine the rest of the trip. There were a few small black hairs in the sheets, making me wonder if they had been changed since the last guest was there. I brushed them off and it was acceptable otherwise (though threadbare). My first morning, I brewed tea in the coffee pot, and left the tea bag in the pot when I was too rushed to clean it before heading out. When I returned that evening, the bag was still in the pot. I wanted to see if it would ever be cleaned, so I left it there. It was never cleaned during the next 3 days I was there. This made me highly uncomfortable wondering what else wasn't being cleaned properly. The rug was stained, so I made a point to never walk barefoot in the room. The business facilities are poor. Just two out-dated computers, only one of which is connected to a tiny printer. Do not rely on this if you have important business-related internet searching or printing to do. If you're just vacationing, it should suffice.
On the other hand, I got a 30% off deal on the price, averaging $95 per night. This was substantially less than what I would have paid for other hotels in the area. The staff were okay, and when I had a problem with the safe upon arrival, it was fixed immediately. I did feel safe while there, though, which is important when traveling alone. The free apples were clean and delicious. There is a nightly wine reception, but I don't drink, so I didn't partake.
If you don't pay too much, this can be a good hotel choice, but, like I said, only if you're not too picky and are willing to clean a few things yourself. It's a real shame, because this has the potential to be a really great hotel, if only they cared enough to make it so.
If things don't improve, I wouldn't stay here again. I'd rather cut my trip short a day and stay somewhere a bit more expensive with more sanitary conditions. I would never allow a toddler/baby to crawl on the floors, though.
Rooms overlooking the library give you better access to flowing air when you open the window (and it...

Thank you for taking time out to fill out our Executive Survey. I do apologize for your check in experience, I have addressed this with our Front Office manager since we expect your arrival experience to match that of the departure experience. As well I was very disappointed to read about the tea bag that you left in the coffee maker, the hair on the bed and the stains on the blanket, that was not addressed by my housekeeping department. This is 100% unacceptable, not to make any excuses but we are currently in a transitional state in our housekeeping department. None the less my staff needs to be aware that it is the minor details that make or break a guest experience, we have all met and I voiced my expectations as we transition this department.

What I can say is that we are currently undergoing quite a few upgrades to our property. Our bathrooms on the 8th floor have been completely renovated, and these rooms have all been deep cleaned from top to bottom prior to being placed back into service. We are working on our 7th floor bathrooms and moving our way through the entire property. Once completed we will address our public area carpeting, wall covering, lighting and rounding out our upgrades with a new elevator system. We are all excited about the upcoming change, and hope to share them with you in the future.
I do hope that you will give us another chance, since what you experience is not our best foot forward. We will continue to press the attention to detail as well as presenting a friendly hospitable experience from arrival to departure. I do thank you for your insight, it is comments such as yours that enable us to enhance the guest experience.
My apologies once again, and thank you for staying with us.
