“Great location, clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Just spent a week at the Ace Hotel. The location is excellent. It is close to major attractions as well as being close to many of Seattle's buses.

The room was clean, and the decor quite attractive.

While we had a room with a private bath, the shared bathrooms seemed to get a lot of attention from housekeeping and appeared spotless.

Four out of five stars. Fifth star is reserved. Hotel is more pretty noisy. I'd suggest avoiding a room near the spotless bathrooms at all costs as they are a source of noise in the evenings as well as early and mid-mornings. I'd also like to see the hotel upgrade the bedding and offer up an acceptable pillow.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the shared bathrooms!

Excellent location, very convenient to get around the city and a great value. We stayed in a room with a private bath (116), but observed that the shared bathrooms appeared VERY clean. However, the room we stayed in was on the hall with the shared bathrooms, so we certainly heard people as they went in and out of the bathrooms....why is it that some people cannot QUIETLY close doors? Would stay here again, but probably would request a different room. If you are a light sleeper or someone who sleeps in, this may not be the place for you. I thought the bed was comfy, but the pillows were awful! When we asked for non-feather pillows, we were met with a strange look, but 2 very flat non-feather pillows were procured from the depths somewhere. We did not try the breakfast.

I love this place. The location is perfect; just a short walk to the market and to numerous pubs and cafes. I didn't have a car, so I cannot comment on the parking. Don't be afraid of the shared bathrooms. They seem to be cleaned many times a day. I can't wait to go back!

The Ace is a great hotel, especially for those that like Urban decor (exposed brick, mid-century modern furniture, street art). Every room is a little different. This is actually our second stay at the Ace and we enjoyed it both times.

Keep in mind this is very much an Urban boutique hotel. Rooms are small, they're refurbished floors and walls, and the windows are thin. You can hear a lot from the outside. If your style is more Marriott and Hyatts, you probably won't enjoy your stay.

They have the option for in-room bathrooms or shared bathrooms. Make sure you check when booking. I didn't realize that on our first booking and luckily they had an in-room bathroom available. I didn't stay in the shared bathrooms, I was never a fan of hostels, but the one down the hall was really clean and nice.

The location is great. You can walk to Pike Place fairly easy and there's tons of food and bar choices on the same street. We walked to Capitol Hill just fine and the cab back was only $8. It's just outside of downtown enough that it's quiet at night and much easier to find parking. As for the parking, it sucks just like any major city. It's expensive, about $26 per day, but the Ace has an easy lot. We ended up doing a lot of street parking. A great tip to know for the meters is you can pre-pay at night. So the metering ends at 8pm. If you get back late and just need to park overnight you can pre-pay till noon, the 4 hr maximum. So you don't have to wake up at 8am and pay or move your car. That will only be $8 vs the $26 from the hotel.

The best part about the Ace is the staff. Everyone is so nice and helpful.

All and all, I would recommend this for any Seattle trip, but only if you like that street art, hipstery, Urban feel.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street can be noisy. The room facing the west, especially the higher floors have vi...

We love the ACE. Perfect location, walking distance to Pike Place market and downtown but in the heart of a funky new area with lots of offbeat shops and great cafés. Very friendly staff. The room we had was slightly larger with its own bathroom - funky rotating wall separates the room from the tiled, moderne design-y bathroom. Everything in tasteful white and slate grey. Bed super comfy - great bedding. Restored furniture. Minimalist design - but the result is warm and comfortable. Added bonus: breakfast in the friendly downstairs kitchen with waffles, yogurt and great coffee. Who could want more? Good value for money.

I had read a lot of great things about the Ace hotels. Everything I read was true, and more. I have done the hostel/shared thing before, but this is like glam hostel with perfect boutique shared bathrooms. Everything is super clean, the rooms are spacious and the location is perfect if you want to go to Pike Place or the Space Needle. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it.

A HOTEL WITH ONLY SHARED BATHROOMS?: EEEEWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I realized that I do use the public showers at the gym, dance studio, and Yoga studio...and all the Ace Hotel reviews average 4 and say its cool...so since I was going solo for 1 night and it was only $109/night for downtown Seattle, I took a leap of faith...

PROS:
1. Bathrooms: Clean, lockable, chic, free shampoo/conditioner/body wash...it was really doable.
2. Location: Space Needle, Pikes Market, Cruiseship Terminal and "dozens" bars within walking distance. Ace is even on top of a bar, Cyclops, and it was alright.
3. Breakfast: Free! I ate 2 Belgian Waffles, 1 Bowl of Almond Granola with Soy Milk, 3 cups of coffee, 2 cups of OJ, and 1 Apple.
4: Bed: Warm and Cozy.
5. Free WiFi
6. Noon Checkout! Plus you can leave your luggage in their office afterwards.
7. Ambience: Cool, Modern, Hip, IKEAish, and Clean.
8. Boys: The guys who staffed this place were friendly, helpful, and pretty darn cute(I'm 49% gay, so I can admire).

CONS:
1. It might be a bit noisy, I was in room 124, but Ace does provide ear plugs in the goodie jar.
2. Your American girlfriend or wife probably won't find this very romantic...though 2 condoms are provided in the room for free. (Also in the goodie jar.)
3. Small room, but its definitely doable if you don't plan on being in your room much anyways.
4. More hostel than hotel...but you do get your own private room...and I've never stayed in a hostel so I guess I can't make a legit comparison.
5. The price could be a bit lower, but $109 was the cheapest in downtown Seattle / Belltown.

Overall, this hotel is straight out of an episode of Portlandia. I didn't see many other guests around, but they all seemed to be foreign or hipsterish, and at age 33 1/3, I think I was the oldest person staying there. If you've done the hostel thing in Europe, Ace is for you. I'd definitely stay at another Ace Hotel again... but only if I was going solo again and if I'm not a rich snob by then.

TIP1: Don't forget to bring your room towels with you to the shower! I had to make a run for it, soaking wet, back to my room. :(

TIP2: If you're flying into SEA-TAC, take the Light Link Rail to downtown Seattle for only $2.75. If you just have a carry-on luggage you can probably hoof the 10 blocks to Ace, but otherwise a taxi from the station was only another $5.
