“Good but just a touch short of great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed at the Monaco for the first night of a week's touring holiday in the Pacific Northwest. Generally happy overall. Valet parking and reception staff all friendly and efficient; dinner and breakfast at adjoining Sazerac restaurant was good. Our room (twin bed premier on 11th floor) was smallish but very pleasant, with simple but interesting decor - sliding shutter blinds, window cushions, cool wallpaper and snazzy leopard print dressing gowns which look like a Kimpton standard! Not much of a view other than office buildings, but it didn't matter too much because we were out most of the day. The location is great, a short walk to Westlake Center monorail to Space Needle, and just a minute or two from the I-5 expressway, ideal if you're driving. Only negative about our room at the Monaco was the bathroom, which was pretty basic, with a sliding door, an old-fashioned bathtub/shower mixer combination and curtain. Didn't match the quality of the main bedroom (or indeed of other rooms at this hotel judging by user pictures submitted on TripAdvisor). Note to management: the bathroom in 1115 needs an upgrade. We also stayed a night at another Kimpton hotel, the Alexis just a couple of blocks away towards the waterfront, which was superior in several ways for the same cost.

Kimpton at one point had the tagline 'every hotel tells a story' and this hotels story is that it was a building from the 60s which was converted 15 years ago into a hotel. not much can be done with those bathrooms, which are fully equipped but perhaps not the wow factor you were seeking. The wow factor here is the service, the staff and the attitude which I believe you mentioned. Glad you are loyal Kimpton fans and stayed at the Alexis, we also have the Vintage Park up the street with the best Italian restaurant in the city Tulio!

My better half and I are working in Washington State and wanted to visit the Pacific Science Museum before winter set in on the pass. We are members of other hotel loyalty programs but two didn't allow pets and one was not available for the type room we wanted so we tried out the Monaco. The staff was surprisingly friendly and helpful and THEY PROVIDED FULL SERVICE at a reasonable price... the importance is that they get it "the need for service". We will definitely stay here on future trips to the city and bring our parents in the spring. The hotel is within walking distance of the needle and market.

Excellent customer service and attitudes!

Suggestion: the concierge and front desk should retain a list of local independent pet sitters/walkers for infrequent visitors to the city. Of course there is always craig's list...

Great suggestion and we are on it! while we are always welcoming of your pets our strong points are great places to hold meetings, and weekend escapes. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of all the stores (ask my wife, she counts the steps) and pretty much all that a weekend or corporate traveler might need. appreciate it.

The Monaco seattle is in a great location, it's within walking distance to Pike's market, shopping, and restaurants. If you are really ambitious you can also walk to the Space Needle from here or grab the light rail which is just a short 2 blocks away. We took the light rail from the airport, it was very easy and like 3 dollars. Another great perk about this location. The hotel room was stylish and has the Kimpton flare I have grown to love, this Kimpton also has a good lobby , full of oversized couches which is great for hanging out and popping open a bottle of some delicious WA state wine before dinner. It has a great restaurant attached and we enjoyed drinks and apps at the bar during our trip, food was good and drinks were better :). We stayed in a Monaco Suite which was very spacious and modern, the furniture is just barely starting to show some wear so overall I stilll think the decor gets an A, but I do think some small improvements will need to be made at some point in the near future. The bathroom was a tad small for a suite but the living room complete with barware distracted me from the small size of the bathroom. There are no views from this hotel, it doesnt have water or city views so don't expect that when you sign up to stay here. We had a small mistep at checkin which they corrected (almost) immediately with just some mild prompting and a quick discussion with the manager.

Highly reccomend this modern hotel in the heart of Seattle.

you are so right ! the location is one of the greatest reasons to stay here but also the snappy decor and the ever so friendly staff. I am delighted you hit on all the high notes. Sorry to read that the furniture is showing some wear, we just renovated 5 months ago, must find what room you were in!

I traveled to Monaco for a seminar. Rather than stay at a cookie cutter hotel that was hosting the seminar, I stayed at Monaco which is owned by the Kimpton chain. My experience was great. I was greeted first by the door man who was pleasant. My check-in experience was easy and the staff was very friendly.

The hotel itself is beautiful. It is decorated so nice that I am going to use some of their ideas to decorate my home. The room was spacious with a great view. The bedding was as nice as my home. Really everything is done with exquisite taste. I really have nothing to say that would be even remotely close to be negative.

Totally forgot to mention the best part. They have happy hour everyday where they serve free drinks. What more can I ask for? Stay here!!!!

yes you are right that wine hour is one reason to stay here but there are so many others! the hotel is far from cookie cutter but our goal has always been to not look like the other guys. We do actually sell many of the items you would have seen in our guest rooms. you should check out the website at kimptonhotels.com

We had a king bed room and the decor was incredible. Loved it! Modern and beautiful.

The location was good. We were a couple of blocks from Pike Place market and the Westlake shopping downtown.

The fan made an annoying noise, not too loud, but just enough to bug you. We tried turning it off, but the room would get kind of humid from the bathroom steam etc, so you had to have it on.

The bed linens were great, but the bed was a bit hard.

Other than that, everything was great. Beautiful hotel lobby, great staff - very friendly and outgoing, great valet. The hotel was very clean and beautifully decorated.

The funny thing about hotel beds is that like goldilocks, they are either too hard or too soft, never just right. Actually lots of our guests rave about the beds and claim to have the best sleep in years. Sorry about the fan, wonder what room you were in, our crack engineering team would be all over it!

I held a bachelorette party here for 12 women. We had 2 suites with rollaways.

Pluses:
1) Wine reception in the lobby in the evenings
2) Luxurious bedding
3) Spacious suites
4) Very attentive service
5) Sazerac is a great restaurant for drinks

Minuses:
1) The suites, IMHO, were overpriced for what they were. Still a lovely place to stay, but get your credit card ready.
2) No pool! Why no rooftop pool??
3) The new refurbishment makes it a lot less colorful and distinctive than its previous design.

Well there isnt a roof top pool because its Seattle and it rains 9 months a year, as well the building was built in 1967 as a telephone switching station and they never thought about a pool. Hey, I am glad you had a terrific time here, we have pretty strict policies on making sure all our guests have peaceful nights with us, glad you were able to keep it down. Remember that just like the airlines we sell rooms based on demand, so you may have had a little shock at the price but that was that darn Seahawks weekend and everybody wanted to be here!

Awesome hotel with friendly staff. A much better option than the Westin where I have stayed in the past. Wine hour in the lobby was a nice touch, staff if very accommodating and super friendly. Great location, walking distance to the fish market and piers. Highly recommend, a great hotel!

if you dont get down to the fish market , have we got a deal for you!, a huge tank of fish where they swim freely until a guest calls down for one! it is a great location for just about everything including the best Italian restaurant up the street, Tulio! the chicken alone will change your life!
