Stopped at the Aux Ducs de Lorraine Restaurant in Saint Hippolyte, Alsace, France for lunch while driving the Route du Vin. Charming table on the outside terrace overlooking the street and fields of grapes.
The lunch Prix fixe menu (Table d'hote) was very good, well presented, traditional Alsace items and in the e13 range.
The inside seating looked elegant and not nearly as much fun as the terrace seating. Beyond the dining room there was an additional dining area - maybe to handle meetings or tour buses. The restaurant was quiet on the September (2009) afternoon we ate here. The terrace does overlook the road leading into Saint Hipolyte and the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg - so on a busy day (in tourist season) the traffic might distract from the otherwise charming terrace atmosphere.
The restaurant also sells bottled wine at very good prices and the attached three-star hotel looked nice.
