“Mushy hot dogs just aren't my thing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

I really don't like mushy hot dogs and that's all I can remember about the Varsity. This one doesn't even have the charm of Mid-town Varsity. Sorry, but I think you'd be better off stopping at McDonald's.

“Whadya have! Whadya have!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

There's no place like the Varsity. An Atlanta institution.

Best heavy chili dogs ever!!!! And you can't go there without a peach pie!! Heavenly.

Actually I'd rather go to the downtown Atlanta location simply because it's a better place to people watch. Very entertaining characters there.

But the food at this location is just as good.

And don't forget to try a Varsity Orange while you're there.

They have tv's so you can catch up on the news while you're enjoying your food.

“What'll ya have? ...how about upset stomach.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

This place is more of a novelty than it is good food. There's nothing healthy in the least here and everything is literally swimming in grease when you get it. I enjoy a good burger or chili dog every once in a while but this stuff is just gross. Word of advice...you really don't want to eat this if you are passing through on a long car trip. I assure you that you will be stopping at rest rooms every mile or two for the rest of your trip and sometimes it's like a race with the devil to find one.

“Everything That's Good About the Original...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

...Without the hassles. In my mind there are plenty of reasons not to go to the Varsity in downtown Atlanta. Despite its fame and history, it can be difficult and not very user friendly.

I have made it a point to stop at a Varsity outlet almost every time I am in Atlanta, just as a Skyline outlet is a must when I am in Cincinnati. Thankfully, this suburban outpost of the Varsity has the same food favorites as the original without all the parking and seating hassles. It is near the Interstate that takes me home (I-75) and service is quick and easy.

Highly recommended: Onion rings that make you reach for your blood pressure medicine and the delicious F.O. (Frosted Orange) shake. Surprisingly they taste good together, despite the radically different flavors. The rest of the menu is only average but the coneys are pretty good and the hamburgers hold their own among fast food fare.

Worth a visit for the onion rings and Frosted Orange.
