“Outstanding hotel in the clouds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

Barry & Sue

We thoroughly enjoyed the three days we spent at Villa Blanca which was part of our tour of Costa Rica in March 2014. The hotel is perched on top the hills with splendid views.

The grounds are perfectly maintained and are great for relaxing and watching the birdlife. There are several trails in the forest to stroll along One featured a feeding station for humming birds. It was fascinating to sit quietly and watch their comings and goings. We went on several bird watching tours with our expert guide, Roy. He was excellent.

The restaurant was very good. The food was varied and beautifully prepared and the service was superb. A special word of thanks to Ronald who looked after us at meal times. The staff were courteous and always helpful, as were the staff in reception and the well stocked shop.

We stayed in one of the casitas (cabins) which, though fairly basic, was clean, comfortable and tidy.

We loved this hotel and would go back there if we ever return to Costa Rica. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All the cabins are detached with plenty of space between them. Really, they all look similar.

Dear Barry & Sue
We are glad you took advantage of our guided tours and enjoyed all the natural attractions, including the trails that surround the property, in the Nature Reserve of Los Angeles. We will make sure to let Ronald and Roy know you mentioned them and we look forward to your return to Villa Blanca and invite you to also visit our sister hotels in the Osa Peninsula and Manuel Antonio, as part of our Greentique hospitality of exceptional Costa Rica experiences!

We did the "Family Package" between Villa Blanca and Si Como No. Two adults, a 13 year old and a 12 year old. Villa Blanca is not really geared for children (e.g. no pool), so you need to do offsite excursions to stay busy. We did Arenal Volcano tour with hot springs, and Zip Lining at San Luis - both were great. Otherwise V.B. is a great place to go and do very little - very relaxing. May want to consider a car since V.B. is about 30 minutes to nearest town, so you would only be able to eat at the V.B. restaurant if no car. Staff was great, and Villa Blanca was a great opportunity to see a side of Cost Rica we wouldn't have otherwise.

Dear Dean E,
We were glad to see you appreciated a side of Costa Rica we believe offers the kind of exceptional experiences that are both unique and authentic. We feel that our guests can pick and choose and so take advantage of the amenities and activities on property and within the nature reserve besides the our many guided tours, including the ones your family enjoyed in our cloud forest reserve as well as on the Pacific coastline at Si Como No in Manuel Antonio.

We arrived at the Villa Blanca on bicycle. Actually walked the last 7 kilometers, but this was our second night on a 5 day biking tour. We were tired and sore and the Villa Blanca offered a cool and quiet break. The cabins are separate and situated so that each one is private, with a small terrace off the back. Our cabin had it's own fireplace and was well stocked with wood which we burned during the evening to break the cloud forest chill and because it was so romantic and quiet. We awoke to birds singing outside and heliconias and other beautiful flowers and plants surrounding our terrace while we sipped coffee and oriented to the day.
We walked to the Chapel which is lovely and took a guided tour through the surrounding cloud forrest with their knowledgeable guide after breakfast.
This is a deliciously romantic and wonderfully secluded resort and the staff bent over backwards to fill our every desire. I recommend this resort to everyone, especially couples.

Room Tip: Every casita is private. Ones closer to the lobby/restaurant may be a bit more convenient but we...

We began our 9 day vacation in Costa Rica in the cloud forest at Villa Blanca. The setting is breathtaking and the views are amazing. We were charmed by the surroundings which include a working dairy farm, a lovely country church, and lush forests. The accommodations are decorated in a rustic fashion but with modern amenities -- clean, cozy and quiet. The high respect for nature is evident throughout the property. The staff is helpful and courteous and the food is top notch - great breakfast buffet and terrific dinner. The reservations staff was very helpful in planning our vacation, Paola in particular helped set up all of our reservations at partner hotels that were very high quality. The excursions were interesting and well planned, and the naturalist on site was extremely knowledgeable. The only downsides are the access road to the site is very hard to travel on and there is no lower end option for dinner. Though we did not have a car, we sensed that driving in and out at night to the nearest town would be very challenging. All in all, a lovely experience for our family.

Dear Cheryl328,
It’s nice to know your time spent with us at Villa Blanca and our partner properties of Greentique Hotels were all of high quality. Part of the reason perhaps so many clients find our atmosphere so private and tranquil is our proximity to civilization. We are working on more options for our menus and thank you for your recommendations. Those last 9km are truly county roads, but we are always working to maintain them and appreciate you found your exceptional stay well worth the drive getting here.
Sincerely,

This remote boutique hotel is a gem! Our group had been on a bus for four hours and were greeted with warm towels and frozen fruit smoothies upon our arrival. When we left they made sure we had breakfast at 4:00 in the morning! I have never been so impressed with customer service as I was here at Villa Blanca. Absolutely the best hotel I have ever stayed at.

Villa Blanca is in the cloud forest and sits high on a hill. Each room is a separate casita with a fire place and porch and deck seating. The massage at the spa was terrific. The menu in the restaurant was varied and very nicely presented. The staff was service oriented in all areas.

Excellent service, beautiful place!!! The best: there's no tv at honeymoon rooms!
I have a wonderful experience at the SPA.
I loved the tour into the cloud forest at night.

I must say that the cocktails could be better, and food's price is a little expensive for local tourism.

In general was an amazing experience, it was a magic trip!
You must to visit it and enjoy it.

Dear MarcoVpR,
We appreciate your review of the many attractions and amenities you enjoyed at Villa Blanca. Was surprised the cocktails were not up to snuff and will be sure to look into who was bartending during your stay. Our menu, which features both organic as well as farm to table ingredients, we believe adds to the gourmet quality and value of El Sendero Restaurante.
