“Can't ask for better!”

I guess I will be the 2nd person to review the Paddle Inn after the addition of their new buidling. What a wonderful Alaskan cabin! It was spotless and nearly brand new. The views are absolutely amazing! The cabin is very nicely done, but not "fussy". The bed was the most comfortable of all the rooms we stayed in on our 2 week "Alaskan Adventure". We stayed 2 nights with our teenage son. We were in the "low tide" room (downstairs) as it has a fold out futon that our son could sleep in and still provided us the privacy of a separate bedroom. The bathroom was my favorite. I took 2 showers a day as the shower is awesome. Done in slate and very large with instant hot water. It was wonderul after a long day of sightseeing, kayaking, etc.
We didn't meet Allison, but Alan was very kind, even after we had to wake him at 7 am because we locked ourselves out (yikes)!
I am VERY picky, and would highly recommend this B&B! It's first class all the way! Don't hesitate to stay there, you won't be disappointed.

Apparently I am the first to review the Paddle Inn since the additional two room building have opened. We stayed for 4 nights and Allison was very friendly and helpful during the booking process. I'm not sure what the old room looked like but our room was great. We stayed in the Low Tide room but Alan (owner) allowed us to go up and take a look at the High Tide room on a day that it was not occupied. I must say that they did a phenominal job on the construction of the building. Alan actually built it himself from the ground up. He is a general contractor that will give you advice on things that you might want to do yourself at your home if you pick his brain.

Anyway, both the High Tide and Low Tide rooms have awesome views of Ressurection Bay. The rooms and beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very nicely done. Alan also installed a tankless water heater so you don't have to wait long for hot water to come through the cold Alaskan plumbing. The Low Tide room has a small refridgerator, microwave, and waffle maker. The High Tide room has the same kitchen equipment except that there is a full size fridge. The view is also a little bit better and there is a telecope for sealife viewing. The refridgerator was stocked with breakfast foods and Alan let us use his BBQ to grill up some Halibut. He also brought over some fresh King Salmon that he caught for me to try.

Alan was very attentive to our needs but was not intrusive at all. The owners have a cool mellow dog named Tonka and they were watching a few of their friend's dogs so we had a good time playing with them all. But don't fear if you don't like dogs, they usually only have one and like I said, he is really mellow. To sum it up, I can't say anything bad about the Paddle Inn. We had the experience of a lifetime in Seward and the Paddle Inn was a big part of it. If we return to Seward we will definately stay there again if it isn't booked up from word spreading about how great this place is.

RECOMMENDATION: Accompany your stay with a glacier trek on top of Exit Glacier with Exit Glacier Guides.

We stayed three nights at The Paddle Inn. It consisted of a single room added onto the owners cabin. The room is relatively small, but is efficiently arranged. There are a lot of clever details in the rustic construction and wall decorations have a nautical/outdoor motif. Connected to the room is a large covered patio with BBQ. The room is very comfortable and has two picture windows.

We didn't expect breakfast with the room, but there were sufficient "cold" items that we didn't need to go out for breakfast. The items were restocked daily. The owners are a nice young couple who are very attentive to detail, but are not intrusive.

The owners are planning to add more rooms to the Paddle Inn, and that may occur by the 2008 travel season.

When driving to the Paddle Inn, you continue past downtown Seward on a dirt/gravel road for a few miles. The road passes some not so attractive cabins and eventually dead ends into the bay. At this point, if you are concerned....don't worry....the Paddle Inn is nearby and it is great! I certainly hope to stay there again!

  • Liked — Attractiveness and comfort. The attached covered patio is great also.
  • Disliked — Leaving on a sunny day that should have been spent in a boat or on the beach.

Stayed 2 nights in mid-Sept. 07. The room is very cute, well decorated with a real "Alaska cabin feel". The owner is obviously a talented finish carpenter. Also it was quite clean. The only drawbacks were:
1. Although the room has a separate entrance, it is simply through the wall to the owners house. They may have attempted to be quiet, but every conversation and footstep could be heard. Somewhat like living with someone you don't know.
2. The room has large windows, and the coverings were difficult to lower and adjust for privacy. The bathroom window covering is totally inadequate...you can see right through it.
3. The room is fairly small, with no where to sit except the bed or two tall captains chairs.

What an incredible place to stay when you are in Seward, AK! It currently is a single room for 2 people but it is so quaint and beautiful that you feel like you are in your own home. The room is entirely done in wood with a huge wood platform bed that was so comfortable after a day of hiking on the Exit Glacier! It has so many unique touches and the proprieters are great, down to earth people. He is a builder and she is a massage therapist. They are currently in the process of building (by hand - themselves) a new B&B property right next to their home. I hope I can go back soon and stay in the new place. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to get away, wake up with the beach (in Alaska) right outside your window, Orca Whales swimming in the bay and absolute quiet!

We absolutley loved the Alaska Paddle Inn. The room was very cozy and the bed was especially comfortable. The owners Alison and Alan were very friendly and made reccomendations on what to do while in Seward. The room was very neat and tidy and decorated in Alaska style. They have a wonderful view of Reseruction Bay. We saw bald eagles, sea otters, sea lions and porpoise right out in front of there place. We walked the beach everyday. We caught halibut on a charter and BBQ'd it on the patio in the backyard. We highly reccomend it to anyone going to Seward.
