We loved our stay with Seward Waterfront lodge. The location is perfect and its very much close to Seward Sealife Centre. We stayed in one of the 2 rooms which overlook the beautiful scenery of Seward. The room is clean and cosy.

Greg and Arlene are wonderful hosts. They are very friendly and helpful and gave us good trip suggestions. Arlene also prepared one of the best breakfast we had during our stay in Alaska. :)

“Poor Accommodations despite Wonderful Location”

Because the Innkeepers are friendly and helpful, and because of its wonderful waterfront location it pains me to report how poor the accommodations are at this B&B. Several of the rooms (including the one we rented) are in the basement of this house and that is exactly how it looks, feels and smells. The guest room door was fashioned from a louvered door with a piece of plywood over the louvers, floor covering was remnants of shag carpeting pieced together, private bath converted from a closet had a metal walled shower insert like you'd find at a campground, one small basement window along the low ceiling was the only source of sunlight but not large enough to constitute a fire exit. The bed was comfortable enough but the bed linens were old and see through thin.. The room was dingy, dusty and dank smelling.

If you were visiting friends who put you up in their teenager's basement rec room turned bedroom it would just be an amusing story. Unfortunately travelers are paying good money for these accommodations and should be forewarned.

Management Response

We would like to respond to this review of our establishment.
While our facility is considered very confortable to the vast majority of our customers (as testified to in our guestbook), occaisionally a guest may not find our accommodations comparable to a large hotel chain. Our sincere intent is to provide a clean, comfortable, and functional room to our guests while maintaining the charm of a personal home. All rooms are inspected annually by our city fire officials to ensure compliance with all safety codes and standards. We are a business that has been in operation for over 17 years (which says something good about us by itself), and are constantly upgrading our ammenities.
Some people do not realize that, in Alaska homes, things may not be the same as in the "Big City". For those folks, we humbly ask that they go elsewhere so as not to spoil the atmosphere at our wonderful lodging!

“Great location, needs improvements”

This bed and breakfast is run by a charming couple and is in a perfect location--on the waterfront adjacent to the Sea Life Center. There were a few concerns however. Our room smelled more like a grandmother's basement than a clean and fresh hotel room. The other problem is that the two mornings I ate breakfast there I found hair in my food. I didn't say anything, but the first time it was a dog hair on my fruit (the family has a dog), and the second time it was a longer brown hair fried stuck to my sausage. Just wanted to share so you're aware. Great couple though--very kind and knowledgeable of the area.
