“Simple, elegant, and SPECTACULAR.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

The lodge is beautiful, but it's simple. Everything you need is available, but the spectacular part about this lodge is the view. It sits on a spit that overlooks the harbor, and I swear the owners seed the oysters on the bank off the deck, because we had sea otters all three days we were there and rarely saw them anywhere else on the harbor coast. In addition, a humpback whale and calf were breaching maybe 200 yards off our deck, and the HUGE picture windows made it possible to enjoy the view even when it was cold and wet outside. Seward was a true highlight of my Alaska trip, and this lodge and the tour run by the owners were a large part of the reason.

The room is just a double (?) bed and tiny bathroom. There is no A/C and no TV, but you probably won't need either. The bed was small but comfortable. This is not like a normal hotel. They do not provide shampoo/ conditioner/ lotion nor do they do any room cleaning until you checkout. If you need towels, tissues, blankets, etc. just ask- the staff is very friendly. The suites are much larger (as is the price) and might have TVs- not sure. The suites also have a great view of the harbor. There is a continental breakfast, but it is pretty small (or I got there late?): just toast and bowl of fruit. There is coffee and hot chocolate available for much of the day. The common deck overlooks the harbor for outstanding views. Whales, bald eagles, sea otters, harbor seals all around. When you are in town, get a few snacks and toiletries for back at the hotel. Important note: the room walls are THIN. You hear a lot through these walls (ie- Mr. Barfy pants next door). Keep your own bathroom door shut for some extra noise protection coming from the adjacent room

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. The owner Kathleen knocked on our door our last day to tell us there were humpback whales right out our deck breaching and feeding. She did not have to do that and was in my opinion going above and beyond. The food was average but the cabin was excellent. 1 1/2 baths, 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. Yes the road to the cabin is dirt but with our mid-sized car we had no issues and see the wildlife you have to go off the beaten path at times. The deck was large and the view excellent. Lexi manned the dining room and gave us excellent conversation and advice as to what to see on a rainy day.

The view is great because it's way out on a long gravel road, and a little bit far (a few miles) off the beaten path. You cant go fast on the road, so its annoying to get back to town, so stock up at Safeway before you get there. There's a mic and fridge in the room, with a small table and chairs with a great view right on the water outside your window. That is the saving grace because the room is very rustic, and the bathroom very small. Stay upstairs for the better view. There were no people around, our name was on a whiteboard and we found a young man who gave us the key and was nice helping with our bags. The outside is funky with old plants, a bear carved out of wood, and some assorted flowers. The surrounding neighborhood is run down and very bMack woodsy. The breakfast is about the most basic we had of our whole trip. Consider it a continental breakfast, and we ended up going to Subway in town a while after that. Breakfast was served by an even younger guy and he was the only one we saw as far as any hosts or mgt. All in all I wished it was a little nicer, but it wasn't a bad experience, and the view was memorable.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs for the view of the bay.

A friend and I stayed at the Alaska Saltwater Lodge waterfront accommodations at Lowell Point at the beginning and end of our kayaking trip and stay at the USFS cabins at Aialik and Holgate in the Kenai Fjords. We rented our kayaks and related gear from the Lodge and they also provided water taxi service to and from the cabins and arranged for a transfer for us, our kayaks and gear from one cabin to the other. After having stayed at numerous different accommodations in Seward including at Lowell Point, I was very surprised and pleased with Lodge, including the gorgeous view from our room (be sure and ask for one with a view of the Bay; not all of them have one; ours was the "North" room); it was spacious, with two very comfortable double beds, spotlessly clean, and included a refrigerator, table and chairs, as well a nice breakfast of fresh fruit, toast or bagels, cereal and coffee, in the common area. On our return we stayed in the D and E suite, which had two bedrooms 1 1/2 baths, a living room and full kitchen and access to the large deck. We were immediately greeted upon arrival by several employes who quickly checked us in and offered to carry our luggage to our room. One of the owners then arrived and moved our water taxi time the following day so that we could have breakfast. The following day the crew helped us deliver our gear down to the Lodge's water taxi at the dock in Seward and load it on board, and then followed me to the owner's house where I kept my car while we were out in the bay, and then followed e back to the harbor and dropped me off.
At the Lodge, we watched eagles soar, sea otters in the Bay, cruise ships sailing in and out, and took walks on the beach.

Room Tip: If you want a view, be sure to be specific and ask for a room with a view. There is also a cottage a...

I was on a family vacation (8 of us) to various places in Alaska for the first time. During our 10 night journey, we stayed at 7 very different places. When we drove up to the Saltwater Lodge, none of us were overly excited at the outside appearance, but were totally blown away by the beautiful accommodations once we checked in. The rooms/suites were done in knotty pine with picture windows overlooking Resurrection Bay -- right on the water too. Our host, Kathleen was so very kind and helpful with suggestions regarding the surrounding area.

The continental breakfast was delightful with the usual items of oatmeal, cold cereal, a variety of breads, yogurt, coffee and tea, plus fresh cut fruit. I would definately stay there again.

We had an excellent time. They were very friendly, accommodating folks with spacious clean rooms. They provided more than we expected, especially when it came to check out & baggage storage. Easy walk into marina area and restaurants. I would book with them again without hesitation.
