This place is so unique! We had a small, clean (not a dog hair in sight) comfortable room with a fun loft which was perfect for our daughter, she said she felt like it was her own treehouse. It reminded us of camping or sailing and we found it to be funky, different and more reasonable from those cookie cutter chain hotels. The common rooms are comfortable, much like our den at home, not a stuffy, formal livingroom. There are also laundry facilities if you need them. At the bottom of the stairs, there is a lovely patio area with gorgeous flowers, a nice place to take a little break. For added local flavor, we watched some kids playing an inventive game of "bicycle basketball" in a nearby lot.
The inn is located within walking distance to the library, many restaurants, shops, and the Sea Life Center. The proprietors, Tom and Lori Swan, go out of their way to be helpful to guests. Tom made many arrangements for our 2 day stay in Seward ahead of time via email/phone. He took care of our Sea Life Center and Iditaride tickets and our Saltwater Lodge small boat tour of the Kenai Fjords and then told us about many other things to do.
The only downside that I could see is that the rooms are all on the second floor and are therefore not handicapped friendly.
When we did have a chance to speak with them, it was obvious that the Swans love Seward and hosting their guests. However, we spent so much time out and about that we didn't spend much time with our hosts - Tom's fault, he had suggested so many things we wanted to get out and see them all!
