I love that most travelers reviewing here can still enjoy an Inn for its "soul" as opposed to just amenities. As Inn's go this one is a bit quirky but a very comfortable place to stay while in Seward. I did not see another spot in town I'd choose over this one. Meet the family, and Kia the dog and Ariana (?) and learn about the local lifestyle. You'll enjoy your stay and be comfortable in Seward.

“Best Part of my Alaska Trip”

My boyfriend and I came to this B &B in May 07. We did our homework and it paid off. . this was a great spot to stay. Clean, great breakfast (try the blueberry pancakes) and Tom, the owner is awesome.
The highlight of our trip was a hike up Mt. Marathon. It was probably the most difficult hike I have ever tried. We really lucked out because we bumped into Tom who helped us down the mountain. It was a blast, but without Tom there was a good chance that I may have had a broken bone by the time I got to the bottom.
It's a great place to stay and I'm hoping to go back soon!

“Unique and fun”

A Swan Nest Inn

This place is so unique! We had a small, clean (not a dog hair in sight) comfortable room with a fun loft which was perfect for our daughter, she said she felt like it was her own treehouse. It reminded us of camping or sailing and we found it to be funky, different and more reasonable from those cookie cutter chain hotels. The common rooms are comfortable, much like our den at home, not a stuffy, formal livingroom. There are also laundry facilities if you need them. At the bottom of the stairs, there is a lovely patio area with gorgeous flowers, a nice place to take a little break. For added local flavor, we watched some kids playing an inventive game of "bicycle basketball" in a nearby lot.
The inn is located within walking distance to the library, many restaurants, shops, and the Sea Life Center. The proprietors, Tom and Lori Swan, go out of their way to be helpful to guests. Tom made many arrangements for our 2 day stay in Seward ahead of time via email/phone. He took care of our Sea Life Center and Iditaride tickets and our Saltwater Lodge small boat tour of the Kenai Fjords and then told us about many other things to do.
The only downside that I could see is that the rooms are all on the second floor and are therefore not handicapped friendly.
When we did have a chance to speak with them, it was obvious that the Swans love Seward and hosting their guests. However, we spent so much time out and about that we didn't spend much time with our hosts - Tom's fault, he had suggested so many things we wanted to get out and see them all!

A Swan Nest Inn is a great find! We traveled to Seward in early June with a group of 8. We chose the Swan Nest because we were hoping to spend time with people who live in Alaska and to learn about the areas that we were visiting. With A Swan Nest we received that and more.
Tom Swan, our host, proprietor and tour guide was incredible. We learned about the history of Seward as well as received advice about restaurants and tours in the area. Even before we arrived in Seward, Tom helped us to arrange a kayaking trip. When we arrived, some of our plans changed due to weather conditions and Tom helped us arrange new plans. He was a wealth of information about what is available in Seward and helped us pick tours that fit our needs and exceeded our expectations.
We were traveling with teenagers, and when our plans changed and we had some down time, he brought out a game and taught the kids to play. On our departure day, we were leaving early and he arose early to make sure that we had homemade breakfast before the usual breakfast time.
The accomodations were unique. The kids loved the loft areas in our rooms. The common areas were very welcoming.
We found A Swan Nest Inn a great place to stay and would highly recommend staying there, not just because of the Inn itself, but because of Tom Swan and the warm and welcoming atmosphere that he gives his inn.

A laid back place, do it yourself checkin since both of the managing couple are out and about, not slaves to a B&B

Very nice, comfortable, easy walk to anyplace in seward except the nearby (7 mi, just a mid range stroll) glacier
Definitely worth the stay if you are going to Seward
