We thought the Lodge was beautiful. The setting was perfect for Alaska visit. There were bears and moose at the river in front of the Lodge. It was very clean and breakfast was excellent. The shuttle was always on time and we worked our schedule around the "on the hour" thing.

There was only one problem and that was check in. We arrived at 2:45. Check in is at 3. They refused to even look to see if our room was ready. We had to sit and wait until exactly 3PM. How stupid.

We stayed at the Windsong Lodge this June for two three nights. I'm not sure why they built the hotel where they did or why AAA recommended it. It is expensive and not within a walkable distance of town. Also the free shuttle only goes into town once/hour (given the price of gas and the state of our environment I wouldn't have wanted the shuttle to drive back and forth empty of occupants but why oh why didn't they build this hotel right in Seward so you could just walked out your door and be in the harbour. So would say that location was the biggest issue, although you are right across from Resurrection River which is beautiful.

The rooms themselves were clean but did not have any character other than the faux-rustic furniture. I would not recommend this place.

The community of Seward was good, Windsong Lodge was not!
We met a very rude and unfriendly employee at the check-in desk. The room was spartan with 2 uncomfortable chairs and a small table. It was a 2-star property with 4-star prices.

“Noisy!!!!!”

Beware-not nearly as special as the advertising would like you to think! The location is right on the road, and it was hard to see the mountains from our room. It is worth noting that EVERYTHING in Seward has a mountain view, the entire town is at the foot of a mountain, so no reason to pay extra for this. We were especially disappointed because this was our last stop in Alaska and we wanted something special. Instead, we got an average room on the bottom level, underneath a family of elephants (or so it sounded), who ran around all night and watched television until 5:00 am. The hotel must have some very cheap construction because you can hear everything your neighbors do, and the noise from people on the top is beyond belief. When we asked for another room, we were told that it was a problem because we were staying 3 days, and the cruise ship passengers were given priority rooms at the front of the building. This is totally unacceptable. If you stay here and are not part of a cruise, you are second class. We were finally able to move to a handicapped room, which was quieter above, but we could hear someone snoring so loudly next door I thought a bear must be hibernating in that room. There are plenty of places to stay in Seward, and the town itself is cute and accessible, so I would definitely skip the Seward Windsong.

“Over priced, but no plan B in Seward”

Seward Windsong Lodge

Jun 3, 2008

We stayed in Seward for 2 days at the end of May. As for my title, it is overpriced and overrated, but almost all of Sewards hotels/motels are run down. I will point out some problems, but I didn't see any alternative hotels in Seward.
First, the positive, location....away from the city with free shuttles to and from the town. I thought the staff was open and friendly. I liked the Lodge type setting.
Now, what I didn't like? Noise!! You can hear everything in the Lodges next to you...And we were on the second floor! The bathroom fixtures were very cheap and flimsy and there was no towel rack at the sink. Also, here is my pet peeve about Alaskan hotels, you get one package of caffinated coffee and one package of decaf in each room. This means you and your spouse get one cup of regular coffee and one cup decaf before you have to go to the lobby and buy coffee....come on guys, I'm working class...try to treat people nice, tip fairly....let me get my coffee fix in the morning.
But will I recommend this hotel? Yes, only because I didn't really see any others in my research or during my visit....But if I were doing this again, I would look hard at other hotels in Seward, and ask other travellers.
