We normally like to stay in budget-friendly hotels, and Alaska during the summertime presented some challenges in this department. We decided to give the Breeze Inn a chance, and it was really fantastic. Our room was huge, immaculate, and well-appointed. We had a ADA-compliant room on the second floor of the main building, which is brand new, so that may have had something to do with it. We had two beds, a queen and a double, a great view of the mountains, and a huge plasma TV.
The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Check-in and check-out were a snap. In the afternoons, they put out freshly-baked, warm chocolate chip cookies. A nice touch!
Some of the rooms in the older parts of the inn, are much smaller, and haven't been updated. That said, they're more affordable (none were available for our stay), and I'd venture to say as clean as the room we had.
I was concerned that we'd be away from the action of downtown Seward, but as it turns out, there are really two centers of activity in the town. There's the older downtown, where some of the nicer hotels are, and there are shops, restaurants and coffee shops at the southern end of town. The Breeze Inn is in the northern hub of the town, near the fishing charters, Ray's Waterfront Restaurant (we had a great meal there), Chinook's Waterfront Restaurant, the Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor's Center, and many of the tour operators. If you're planning a boat trip, you'll leave from here. It's about a mile closer to the entry to Exit Glacier, though you still need to drive or take a taxi or tour van up there. It's also closer to the cruise ship terminal, though still probably a 15-20 minute walk from that pier. Another part of our party stayed in the downtown, and they ended up having to take taxis or their hotel shuttle up to our neck of the woods for dinner and cruises and such.
Overall, we were really pleased with the value, comfort, cleanliness and location of the Breeze Inn.
