My husband and I stayed here Memorial Day weekend and found this to be a very cost efficient, clean, and cozy place to stay. Seward is a beautiful town and though this hotel isn't located right on the harbor, it's location is pretty centralized. It is within reasonable walking distance to both the downtown area (coffee shops, Alaska Sealife Center, bars, and restaurants) and to the harbor area (additional restaurants and gift shops along with cruise and tour checkpoints). The room decor along with the whole hotel vibe was that of the outdoors...more like a cabin then the run of the mill plain jane hotel room. We would definitely stay there again!

Stayed overnight durring Labor Day Weekend. The room itself was just average basic room, but it was clean. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Their recommendations for restaurants were right on the money. Apollo Restaurant had good Greek food for Lunch. Ray's Waterfront Restaurant had excellent seafood and great friendly service. Really great view overlooking small boat harbor. The staff also suggested and on our way out of Seward to have dinner at the Salmon Bake. We were told don't be put off with their slogan "Cheap Beer, Lousey Food". it was actually a funky themed restaurant with good authentic Alaskan food. If looking for tour, check out Saltwater Lodge. Small boat and very personalized.

Found the staff to be helpful and responsive (I'm not sure why though after overhearing the members of several tour groups complain about VERY trivial issues). Make sure you understand which room you are requesting. Some open onto the lobby while others do not have windows, but do have a balcony overlooking the lobby.
Very convenient to downtown Seward and the Sealife Center. The "noisy" bar referenced in other posts has been closed by the city :-)

Room was in excellent condition and kept spotlessly clean. Service was excellent. As has been noted, the "Harborview" has no view of the harbor, or of anything else scenic. There is no fridge or microwave, and no internet connection other than a dial-up jack. (Earthlink, et al, has little coverage in Alaska, so if you are planning to use dialup anywhere in the state, figure out in advance who you going to dial.) Office staff was friendly and competent.

The Holiday Inn Express seems the obvious best choice in Seward; so obvious that it was booked up three months in advance. The Harborview is a pretty good second choice. I learned that I had paid $20/night extra for the privelege of booking the Harborview through one of the online travel agencies, so It would probably pay to shop carefully for the best rate.

“Family Suite is great!”

Harborview Inn

We stayed in the 4-bedroom Family Suite and found it very comfortable.
It is a complete two-story townhouse with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and 4 bedrooms upstairs.
There were 6 of us, and it worked really well for our party.
The unit was clean, comfortable, and well maintained.
The hotel is located about one block from the bay, and about 7 minutes walking to the center of this little town.
I wish they had a hot tub but otherwise no complaints at all.
