“This place is a steal! This is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2010

This place is a steal! This is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in. The price is amazing for what you get and Dale and Justyne (the hosts) are so friendly and accommodating! We booked the suite for 6 nights, and when we called to see if it was available, Dale even gave us a discount because we were staying so long. So it was an even bigger bargain! The suite was very well maintained, clean, and nice. The kitchenette is modern with nice appliances (a full refrigerator, a stoptop, a microwave, a coffee machine, a toaster, etc.). It will sleep 4 very comfortably. There are two king sized beds (one in the common room and one in the bedroom) and there is also a sofa in the bedroom that might be a pull-out (we didn’t ask because it was just my husband and I). The Jacuzzi tub is great too. The suite has a separate entrance from the house, so you can come and go as you please without worrying about disturbing the hosts. Dale and Justyne have a combo lock on the suite door (and they give you the code for that), but they also give you a key as a backup just in case. They also gave us Dale’s personal cell phone number in case we needed to contact them for anything. They were so friendly. Before we checked in, we were running late and called to let them know. We also asked them for a recommendation on a good place to eat between Kenai and Seward and they were happy to help us out. They also made many other recommendations for food throughout the week and they have a book with the menus from all the local restaurants if you want to peruse that first. You can opt to have breakfast provided for you in the mornings, and my husband and I took advantage of that. The breakfasts they made for us were amazing. They would make something and leave it for us in the refrigerator of the kitchenette everyday while we were gone, so that we could have breakfast whenever we wanted the next day. Some of the breakfasts were cold: i.e., fruit and yogurt parfait (which was AMAZING), and cranberry scones. But some were warm: i.e., pancakes with blackberry sauce. For the warm breakfast, they just left it in a container and we just heated it up in the microwave in the morning. They also provided fruit, granola bars, cereal, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, and they left small pudding cups for us at night for dessert (a delightful and unexpected treat!). Finally, when we were there, it rained quite a bit and it was cold. As a result, we ended up going through clothes a lot faster than we anticipated, so they let us use their washer and dryer to do a load a laundry half-way through the week! Basically, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to anyone looking to stay in the Seward area!!!
Pros: Bargain price, extremely friendly and accommodating hosts, great accommodations, wonderful breakfasts.
Cons: None.

Imagine, after a hard day of sightseeing, to go back to your room and luxuriate in a Jacuzzi and king bed. This is what it was like with this exceptional place. While we were only able to stay one night in our pre-cruise trip, we were truly impressed by the quality lodging provided. Everything was new and very clean. The living room was huge with a bed that can sleep 2 more people and its own bathroom. The king bed in the master bedroom was comfortable with fine linens.

Hostess Justyne was genuinely happy to see and talk to people coming to visit Alaska from all different places. She said all her guests had enjoyed the Jacuzzi in the master bathroom, which I can see why. She also provided a lot of information about local attractions.

Breakfast was simple and unattended but adequate. The kitchen area was in the long narrow sunroom off to the side of the bedroom. From the picture of their web site I can see that it had been upgraded to a full kitchen. A large refrigerator and a stove were added after our visit. Given the generally underwhelming reviews of local eateries, it is not a bad idea to make use of this kitchen to complement your stays.

The location of the property is not in downtown Seward so you are not in walking distance to the port or attractions in the city. But it is easy to get to them by car as parking is not difficult to find in Seward. So yes you will need a car to get around. Otherwise, they are pretty close to Exit Glacier and the Iditaride.

They did provide wireless Internet for free but the connection was not very stable while I was there. So be patient.

Justyne mentioned that Alaska was one of the few places where B&B costs less than a hotel room. This is certainly true in her place. I feel that it provided the comfort of a well appointed hotel room. And on top of that, a great deal more values. It had been over a year by the time I get to write this review so more things might have changed. But I am confident that they changed for the better. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if I set foot in Seward next time, perhaps for a little longer.
