“DEFINITELY The Place To Stay in Seward”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

This B&B is for couples. However, we were a few guys on an adventure trip in AK.
But Lori - the owner - made every attempt to accommodate our needs and make the stay as comfortable as possible.
The main reason for booking this place was the reviews I read on TripAdvisor, and it was $30/night cheaper than the motel on the waterfront. I can tell you - every positive review is true.
So when it comes to value, it is a BIG plus; probably the best.

The location is excellent; walking distance from the main docks - yet quiet and very "suburbia".
It is also within walking distance from the Safeway.

The rooms are very clean, and set up for couples. They have the "woman's touch" - and give you that home away from home feeling. Loved the flowers and the sculptures!
You can see the water from the living room and the yard.
Bathrooms are clean and amply supplied with towels and toiletries.
We did not use the spa, but it looked great.

The breakfast is very good too - fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, and some baked item - we had a great quiche - right off the oven!
We were surprised to find that there was always some home made goodies every night on the dresser.

But what makes the place great is not just value or location or the cute rooms.
The owners really made us feel at home - as if we were staying with friends and relatives - e.g., sharing their stories of Seward and smoked salmon in front of the cozy fireplace.

Lori never went back on her word on anything - everything was according to plan yet with the comfort of home away from home.

Yes, a definite recommendation!

Room Tip: Be sure to book this place MONTHS in advance. They are probably full all the time

We enjoyed our stay at Bear Ridge B&B for the most part. Our only reservation was that we were in the Alaska Room right off the kitchen and we had to exit our room to get to the bathroom which was in view of the kitchen. But that was really not much of a problem. There was an outside entrance to the room itself as well as from the kitchen. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were among the best we experienced on our trip. We would go there again and recommend it.

Room Tip: If the proximity of the Alaska Room and its bathroom to the kitchen is a problem for you then ask fo...

Thank you for your kind words about our breakfasts and the hospitatlity. Since your stay we have put up a curtain to separate the kitchen from the Alaska room's bathroom. We hope that this will make a more comfortable stay for our future guests.

The view from our room was beautiful, the hosts Lori and Dan were quite hospitable, and the extra $5 pp for hot cooked breakfast was WELL worth it! We would stay here again. We have stayed at B and B's a few other times and this is the very best!

Room Tip: The Bay Room is the best.

Never stayed in a B&B before, and thinking I probably won't again. It was weird having the owners sitting there watching game shows on the TV and seeing their personal pictures and belongings all over. The back yard had flies galore. The smell of fish was so strong, , that we had to leave the area after about 15 mins. The way the write up and pictures looked, I thought the place was a lot closer to the water, it basically had just a peek-a-boo view. You would think that the owners would realize most people are not accustomed to the constant daylight, and would consider putting blackout curtains on the windows. One of the rental rooms we had, you had to go out into the main living area to get to the bathroom. That was not expected AT ALL!

Room Tip: One of the bathrooms is not totally private. You must leave your room and go out in the common are...

I would like to respond to several items in the reviewer's comments. First, both of our rooms have blinds and curtains (one set of curtains does have the extra backing material, and both rooms do become dark when the blinds and curtains are closed). Second, our community is a fishing community and we do have a fish processing plant; hence, the fish smell. Third, we did have a section of the summer where either the mosquitos or the flies were very bad. We can not control that. Also, our B & B is part of our home; although, each room has a separate entrance, guests do have to go through our living room to use the deck, fire pit or hot tub. All of which are ours, but we allow our guests to use those. Of course, guests will see us relaxing in our living room when we have the time. Finally, the bedroom off of the kitchen has a bathroom just outside of its door. Guests must exit the bedroom, take an immediate right & head into the bathroom which no one else in the home uses. Just this week, we put up an attractive curtain to make certain guests could not see anyone in the kitchen or vice versa. We hope that by putting up the curtain, guests will feel more comfortable in our home.

We do try to make adjustments to our home so that we can better serve our guests. And, we feel that the B & B is better for their suggestions.

We loved our stay here. Lori was great and very hospitable.
Nice garden with a mountain view (although one building is slightly in the way). I used the hot tub both nights. We didn’t get to use the fire pit, but that looked like a great set-up and outdoor hang-out space.
Breakfast is continental – lots of options. Both days we were there Lori did make something hot for us – a breakfast pastry one day, and sausage and grits the other day. I think whether you get this depends on Lori’s schedule though. The kitchen has counter seating and a separate table in the adjoining living room. It is a more casual eat-when-you-want, which we liked, versus strict seating at one time for everyone staying there at some other B&Bs.
Our room (the Alaska Room) was slightly less expensive than comparable rooms ($100) in Seward, likely because the room and the bathroom were both off the kitchen, although next to each other. So if you were just waking up and needed to use the facilities, you passed by whoever was in the kitchen for those few steps. The room has its exit door.

We just staid one night at this lovely B&B. The room is large and very clean. There are free wifi and the breakfast was great (home made banana bread.
However what made this a great experience was the nice host – Lori and Dan. They treat you like family and are so interesting to talk to.

We only stayed one night in Seward but we wished we have had 2 because there are some really nice hiking tours in the area.

I will definitely recommend this B&B

Dear DenmarkLotte,
We certainly enjoyed the great conversations with the two of you. Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Now it is our turn to travel to your area to discover the wonders of your homeland. We also hope that you do come back to Alaska to try out some other hikes in our area.
