Was looking for lodging at a reasonable rate, in the Seward area, and hit the jackpot with Renfro's. Why stay in busy Seward, and miss the feel of Alaska, when you can stay in a new and VERY clean cabin overlooking a lake? The views were outstanding! So many of the lodgings we saw were right on the highway, but Renfro's is set in the woods, about 20 miles north of Seward. We stayed 4 days there. Cabins on the lake sleep 5 (a loft with queen bed upstairs for privacy), modern bathroom, kitchen was good, but could have used a microwave. Hosts provide a paddleboat for use on the lake free! Laundry on site.
While we were there we visited Exit glacier (bring shoes that can get wet, so that you dont have to jump across rocks), did a cruise of the glaciers in Whittier and Seward (my 1st choice would be either Major Marine or Kenai Fjords tour in Seward. Don't bother with the bay tour, you wont see an active glacier...go with a 6-8 hour tour. Loved the food on Major Marine. The Whittier tour stops at more glaciers but we saw very little wildlife), and we also took a wild dog sled ride with Ididaride. We took a whole day to drive to Homer and back, but was disappointed with the shops on the spit. We took the Skilag loop road and saw a moose and calf. There were tons of bald eagle north of Homer.
