“Serene lodging with nice view of the lake.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2010

We really enjoyed our stay, this was our favorite B&B in Alaska. The owners and caretakers were sincere, friendly people and a joy to interact with, lodging was pleasant. The view of the lake from our room and the living area was beautiful. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking, also loved Pats gourmet ice cream bars every evening.

This review is long overview....embarassingly, we stayed here almost a year ago but as I sit here hot in Texas fantasizing about a return to Alaska, I have even more perspective now on how great this place really was! THE BASICS: We had one of the upstairs rooms and we shared the hallway bathroom. Our room was super clean and sharing the bathroom was absolutely not a big deal at all. Breakfast was simple but met our needs. Nice living room space and a deck to commune with other guests. THE GOOD STUFF: 1) The location on the lake was amazing...we took a great hike into the nearby woods and were able to see lots of bright red salmon making their way upstream. We hopped in a canoe and paddled around the lake one evening enjoying the starry sky. 2) The B&B owners and neighbors were great. Delicious ice cream bars every afternoon. And adorable and super smart dog :). Lots of Alaskan adventure stories as we sat around in the living room. And a friendly neighbor who owned the float plane oustide who ended up taking us for short ride!

One note on location: For us it was perfect - we loved that we could just take off and explore the local area right from the B&B. We could also easily access the main road to head into town and to get to the glaciers and some of the major hiking trails. However, for folks looking to be in the heart of the town of Seward, this place is not for you.

The setting of being rignt on the lake with the views of the mountains must be seen. Our room had a private deck to enjoy the views from. Jennie, the innkeeper was very helpful and fun to talk to. We felt very much "at home." The location felt remote but was very close to town and all of the activities in the area. We are planning on returning next year.

Breathes nature and "on vacation". Great resources to plan your outings in the area. Fresh handdipped icecream was a surprise treat. The full breakfast really hit the spot. Thank you. We will be back, Traci and Kelly Sanders

We stayed for 6 nights and Bear Lake was the perfect choice for our honeymoon. Pat and Dennis are inviting hosts and Ginny is an incredibly helpful and attentive manager. Breakfast each morning was delicious and she was so helpful in planning local excursions. When I mentioned a book I wanted to read, Ginny called and reserved it at the local library for me!

We stayed in the Lake View suite and it was incredibly comfortable. I must say that for the price we paid, I can't believe we had such a nice room. We enjoyed meeting new people every morning and the free ice cream dessert every night was a real treat.

Along with the great service, the lodge is in a remarkable location. Bear Lake is a beauty and we explored it in the lodge's free kayaks. We encountered bald eagles, hawks, leaping salmon, and other wildlife on the scenic lake. The lodge is about 15 minutes North of Seward - an easy drive to all it's attractions.

All in all, if we ever come back to Seward, I know where we'll be staying! Bear Lake was a fantastic B&B. Thanks for the memories.

My family have a wonderful vacation in Sheward, AK. The people and the place made it so memorable. Pat and Dennis, the host couple and Ginny, the Inn Keeper are good people turned good friends. I will recommend them highly to my friends and family.
