We stayed in Pervolia as we wanted to be away from the main tourist areas of Larnaca, yet we wanted to have restaurants and facilities close at hand.
We were kindly picked up from the airport by the proprietor, Marios and transfered straight to the apartment.
The property is located right in the heart of the village. Just next door is a Sports Bar and across the road is a Chinese Restaurant (handy for a takeaway!). Within 2 minutes walk there are at least 3 other Greek Cypriot restaurants, a hairdressing salon and a souvenir shop. If a pharmacist is needed you would have to go to the neighbouring village of Kiti, which is a 5-10 minute drive.
We had a 2 bedroomed apartment that was simply furnished, yet very spacious. There was a kitchen area with full size cooker, basic utensils enough for breakfast and a light lunch and a good sized fridge freezer. There was a welcome pack of supplies for us in the fridge and some tea and coffee to get us through a couple of days which was a nice touch. The TV only shows the local channels. The bathroom had shower only. Not sure if this was the case throughout the property. There is a communal-use washing machine in the corridor but we didn't need to use it. We had a couple of housekeeping queries which we addressed to Marios, and he immediately sorted them out for us. He was on hand most of the time and was always helpful.
Outside there is a pool and a children's small splash pool. There are also a couple of kids climbing frames/slides and lots of pool toys for kids use. There were at least 20 or so loungers, but it never really got busy so it was nice and quiet most of the time, but I suppose expected for the time of the year.
The nearest beach is about a 15 minute walk or a 2-3 minute drive from the apartment. Its quite pebbly so flip flops/sandals recommended, but if you drive a bit further up towards Kiti beach there is a bit more sand and more comfortable.
We hired a car from the 'Stevens Car Hire' company that was recommended by Marios. Very good value for money and no problems at all with the car.
We had a couple of meals in Pervolia. One recommended restaurant is Soutsos, however, we were disappointed that the waiters and waitresses were non-Greek speaking and took away the authenicity of the experience. In Larnaca town there is a new Greek Cypriot restaurant highly recommended. It is called 'Obos Balia' on the corner of Crete and Ellispontou street. The meze was phenomenal and there was an acoustic guitarist singing old Greek songs and the locals were having a good sing-along too. There are also some lovely restaurants in the 'Laiki Yitonia' area close to St Lazarus church, which is nice to get away from the main tourist areas.
We visited a couple of kids attractions. Recommended is 'Dreamland' An indoor and outdoor soft play/bouncy castle venue which also has a swimming pool open in the summer. It is just outside Kiti on the road to Tersephanou. We also visited the Camel Park which is on the road to Mazotos. There are many camels to see and some other animals too and a lovely playground for the kids. You have the option of paying extra for the camel rides.
Overall a lovely winter break in a no frills accommodation, but plenty of sun which is what we needed!!
