Thanks to the other Tripadvisor reviews I was well prepared for this holiday.

Tucepi is a mix of local apartments for rent (south side) and a few hotels on the north side. The Afrodita is definitely the best of the hotels for families, older couples or people who have traveled and expect a certain quality. If you are young and want to party, choose one of the other Bluehotels up the road.

The room was good, perhaps not as clean as you would expect (dust under beds and on shelves) but the hotel is above average with friendly staff and a decent buffet with a mix of standard European food with a Croatian touch.

Beach in July and August is packed. Jet ski and other boys toys are reasonably priced and worth trying. Food in local snack bars is cheap. Beach towels can be bought on the spot for 10-15 Euros likewise shoes for beach 5-9 Euros which are both cheaper than bringing them with you.

You have to book a table at the Ran´c (pronounced ranch) which is unbelivable and hard to find but worth it. Call up and ask for the 10 hour marinated and slowly cooked BBQ.......

Tucepi is limited and you can get easily get bored with the limited scenery, so worth booking a car to visit Dubrovnik.

Facilities and cleanliness of Afrodita village were very good, however the swimming pool and outside Jacuzzi were ice cold for the whole week. Tucepi itself was rather dissapointing with loads of tacky gift shops. Restaurants were OK but they were all pretty much the same - you normally find a couple of gems when you visit a resort, but not this time. The food was fine and very reasonably priced, but most of the restaurants had virtually the same menu. First week in September may be getting towards the end of the season, but was surprised to see so many bars already shut down at this time of year. Makarska - a village about three miles down the coast looked a bit livlier and certainly had a bit more history to it. Day trip to Dubrovnik was well worth the 2.5 hour coach journey each way and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Croatia for the first time. Would I come back to Croatia? - yes but probably a different resort and a bit earlier in the summer.

An excellent hotel. The staff are pleasant and could not be more helpful. The rooms are comfortable with good facilities (except no way of making a cup of tea or coffee in the room - so take a travel kettle if you want to have an early morning drink).
The hotel is situated about half way along the promenade and has easy access to all facilities in Tucepi with very little late night noise-certainly nothing that would disturb you after midnight.
The food is excellent and there was always a good variety with different selections each day. However there are plenty of restaurants along the prom as well if you want a change. The Ranch is recommended - just out of the town set in olive groves
This was on of the most rtelaxing holidays I have had and if you are after hectic nightlife then Tucepi is not for you, however it is the place just to let time go by and people watch. Everything is done at your own pace.
Went on trips to Dubrovnik - well worth a visit an interesting to discover the effect of the war on the city - and if you have time take the trip up Biokovo Mountain the views are outstanding and the meal afterwards will keep you going for a month!!
Overall a highly recommended hotel and resort for a relaxing time and just unwinding.

We stayed in this hotel in Sept 06.
Never been to Croatia before, so were unsure of what to expect.
Need not have worried...Tucepi is great and so is the hotel Afrodita.
Is all new, with nice big, clean rooms.
Half board food is good, plenty of variation..and you can buy wine at the table at good prices to suit all pockets.
Staff are fantastic and made a real fuss of our 9 month old daughter...they even brought her a little present when we left.
Pool area is fantastic, nice walk in pool...plenty of beds etc.
Entertainment is ok...the staff try really hard.
Location is ideal...in the middle of the sea front, although the slope from hotel to prom is very steep.
Sea is crystal clear but beach is large pebbles so wear sandels of some kind (can be bought locally on seafront).
Book this hotel with confidence...its part of the RUI group.
Plenty of restaurants and bars within 2 minute walk. Dont go after mid Sept...everything closes for the winter.

We were both quite apprehensive about going to Croatia and what to expect, as there was not much info on the hotel or many reviews, but this place certainly made Tucepi and Croatia a place to return to in the future!

Hotel:
The place is immaculate, all areas; pool, restaurant, reception, gardens, rooms, everything! It is so well presented and looked after. The rooms are above average, with satellite TV, mini bar etc.
I don't recommend paying for a 'sea view' as the trees are in the way in most rooms.
Pool was great, only concern was, there was no lifeguard. All the staff spoke English well, better than I can speak Croatian anyway! And they are so friendly.

Restaurant:
The food was nothing to write home about, but tasty. It was a little limited on variety. But it is so cheap to eat out in the town we didn't mind eating in there some nights, drinks are pricy though. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful. You get allocated a table for the week, and we got sat with another English couple luckily, but some people we spoke to were sat with foreign people who spoke no English.

Location:
Fab! You are 5 minutes walk from Tucepi town centre, lots of restaurants and 'tat' shops. The steps in the hotel take you onto the long promenade which goes from one end of the town to the other, 5 minutes walk the other way are a few really nice bars and clubs. The food, souvenirs etc are all SO cheap.
Beaches are very long, but pebbly, so take a lilo, or buy one for £3. But very clean, and water is crystal clear.
Bars we recommend: Batula, Havana and Coco.
Restaurants: Leonardo's terrace restaurant overlooking the marina (We had a gorgeous 3 course meal and large bottle of wine, and paid £25!!! You cannot fault it!

Excursions:
Mostar (in Bosnia) - Which got bombed in the 1993 war, a beautiful place and very interesting
White Water Rafting - BRILLIANT!

Recommend it for:
Young and old Couples &Families.
Not a huge nightlife, more people watching, so maybe not for people wanting to 'live it large'

Overall Evaluation:
Highly recommend
A****+++
