“Ideal location on the Big Kahoona”

Never shopped on the web for a place to stay and was to be honest nervous about what I was going to end up in. I was very pleased if not excited about my choice once I arrived. The condo had every thing that we needed to enjoy our stay. All furnishings, lines, appliances seemed to be new. We opened one of the closets in the 2nd bedroom and found all kinds of equipment, tennis rackets, snorkeling gear, boggy boards, beach chairs, coolers and even sand toys for little kids. The complex has two tennis courts a pool and spa tub that looks like the pool and decking was just redone, very nice looking. There is a barbeque area with fans over head to keep you cooled off and a pool table, sauna and showers in the pool area which was nice to get the salt off after swimming at the beach. The beach is just across the street from the complex and had an awesome experience swimming with turtles. There is an outdoor shower at the beach but I preferred to soap down after in the complex shower. I recommend the snorkeling up the road about a quarter mile this area has fantastic under water photo opportunities. There is a trolley that runs up and down the road in front of the complex. We took this down to town and walked around checking out the various shops. My wife said she especially enjoyed the early mornings on the lanai with a cup of local coffee (Kona) and the sound of the birds. I highly recommend unit #326 to anyone with family or just couples. Very comfy and relaxing place!!!

Room Tip: #326 was fully loaded, had a view of the ocean and was far enough away to get no road noise. Very qu...

The condo that we stayed in #320 owned by Joani and Ray Duncan is beautiful, clean, comfortable and the perfect location for anything you want to do on the Big Island!!! No complaints...well just one...we had to leave! :( Joani is extremely easy to work with and a very sweet person! Can hardly wait to come back! Thank you Joani and Ray for sharing your piece of heaven!

http://www.vrbo.com/288986 (Room 322) This is a basic, older looking condo in the Kailua-Kona area. It has carpet and some tile, as well. The photo of the 'view from lanai' appears to be zoomed-in by the camera-yes, you do get that view but certainly not from that close (you are more like 10-ish units back even though the photo makes it appear like you are right up front). Regardless, when you sit on the Lanai, you can see this beautiful view and hear the waves. The best part of this place is the walk right across the street to Magic Sands beach...The waves were pretty big on our first couple of days and then definitely settled down and there is lots of body/boogie boarding there (even younger kids). Our stay was nice-as long as you're looking for a decent place to sleep and spend a couple of hours in during the day, this would be the place for you...But don't expect it to look like the Hilton! Unfortunately, there was an issue/possible miscommunication with the housekeeper and our unit had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. Other than that, our stay was enjoyable. The main strip of shops are a bit of a walk (I would guess 20-30 mins). We had a car-which I would highly recommend for the area. Our favourite restaurants were Lulu's and Bongo Ben's. We had 4 adults and 1 infant traveling with us. PS The Magic Sands beach area is not very big (if that's what you're looking for). If you're looking for a longer stretch of beach, I would recommend the beach at the Waikoloa Mariott Resort or Hapuna beach (which is a 25-40 minute drive from this area).

Spent March 27 to April 7th, 2011 at condo #335. Booked this condo through VRBO. The condo was exactly like the pictures. The condo is at the back of the property making it very quiet, the grounds are nice and well kept. I don't know if it was just the time of year we were there but sitting on the Lanai (our favourite spot) was always comfortable and never too hot. All appliances worked well (except toaster) and having the washer and dryer was an added bonus. The kingsize bed was very comfortable. It was a short drive into Kona or to the Kona farmers market. An easy walk to the Alli gardens farmers market. The booking process was very easy. Would book again at this condo in a hearbeat!

We stayed here with friends over spring break in March 2010. Our friends got the unit through their timeshare so we didn't have much expectations when we got there. The condos in general are in decent shape and seem to be in a safe area. The drive into the touristy area with all of the restaurants and shops was quick and scenic. The little "beach" across the street is not really a beach, it has more rocks than sand and no place to lay out and relax. With that said we still spent a couple hours here boogie boarding and came down at night just to hear the ocean and put our toes in the water. Overall I would recommend this complex even though I probably wouldn't stay here again, only because I would prefer a ocean front property next time.

I am not much of Condo or home rental traveler, but in Kona it worked out great for us. We generally stay in hotels, but in Kona its either high-end properties or old properties in need of renovation. In my opinion, staying at Hilton, Mauna Kea or Mauna Lani, is not true Hawaii experience. So, I contacted one of our friends who live on the island to help in our search and they got us touch with Vivian, who manages several properties at White Sand Condo. We were lucky enough to find a Condo, due to late cancellation at White Sand, unit 329 for a week. The unit was on the top floor, away from the pool area and very quiet. The unit had everything, it was like walking into home that is occupied, it had a small locked cabinet space for the owners, but everything else was accessible. It even had freezer full of food, along with complete spice rack and closet full of linens. Two bedrooms of which we only used one of them and everything in working order.
The location was ideal, midway between town of Kailua Kona and Keahou Bay, it definitely gives you the feel of living among the locals with the sound of dogs barking and roosters in the morning. If you are coming to Hawaii, enjoy the local flavor as much as you can, many leave without seeing this part of the island. Cruiseship visits regularly and town fills up with people, but they leave in the evening. Many reasonable places to eat, both in town and Keahou Shopping Center. Great lunch at Coffee Shack north of Keahou on the way to Kealakekua, they bake their own bread and what a view! In town, try Quinn's for amazing Ono fish and chips and great selection of beer at Kona Brewery Co. If you are looking for another Oahu or Maui, this is not the place for you, especially for younger crowed which makes this island perfect for nice and relaxing stay. Contact Vivian and you will not go wrong. sellersh001@hawaii.rr.com

My wife and I just returned from Kona, we stayed in condo #326 at Kona White Sands. The condo was perfect. It was clean, modern, well furnished, quiet, and comfortable. The Condo complex pool was very nice too. The location was great, right across the street from Majic Sands Beach on Alii Drive. The condo was easy to book and find, and flying into Kona Airport was a breeze. The Kona area was great, not much traffic, great weather, and better beaches. We will be back in the future, and hopefully back to #326.
