“Perfect Location, Perfect Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2014

The Courtyard King Kamehameha Kona Beach Resort is in a perfect location. It is at the beginning of the shopping village with many wonderful places to eat at shop just a few steps away from the hotel, and it's also on a beach area (2 in fact) that has a protected swimming area and offers many water adventures! From our oceanview room we could watch the cruise ships come into the area, the outriggers go out with beginners and experienced sailors, weddings begin and end, snorklers go out and come back in, the morning "swim groups" take off, children and adults playing on the beautiful sand and just about all the activities that live on the main dock in Kialua-Kona. The hotel had perhaps the best staff that I have ever experienced anywhere-and I've traveled for my job for 22 years. Mahalo to the entire staff but especially Haidee at the front desk and Bernie in housekeeping! Arturo was the bellman that we always looked forward to seeing with his helpful smiles and his quick wit! The hotel has self parking in an enclosed lot that was easy in and out and I always felt was safe. The hotel pool is an infinity pool and wonderful poolside service for great food and drink. Their jacuzzi was very relaxing after a hard day of sighseeing and shopping! The hotel restaurant, Hona's, was indoor-outdoor with great food and great service. Our favorite restaurants on the strip just across from the hotel were Splasher's for great fish tacos, and the Fish Hopper for the best breakfasts and the perfect happy hour! Just a short walk up the hill from the hotel were coffee shops, more restaurants, Hilo Hattie's (a must for souveniers), Kona Brewing Company, and many other convenient locations.
The shops adjacent to our hotel came in handy for sundries (ABC) and great coffee and beautiful clothing!
I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat if I ever have the luxury of visiting this area again. From the minute we pulled our car up to the front was had excellent guest service that was personal and professional. I'm extremely picky when it comes to hotels and their staff, cleanliness and safety. This property should be a model for all hotels to follow! Mahalo to management for creating this environment and staffing only the very best!

Room Tip: If possible, book a room with an ocean view on a high floor, find Haidee when you check in, and try...

First time to big island. 10 nights. Used my points up. 10 nights hear vs. 8 nights at the fancier marriot property. Didn't have ocean view and would not upgrade me because I was just silver even though the place was about 25% occupied during lower season (November). Parking is $14 per day which seems onerous to me but I'm a midwesterner. Never ate at restaurants inside. Restaurants outside the hotel are pricey. Found a bargain chinese place that has a $3.99 breakfast. Very good and reasonable. We loved the island so much that we came back in December and bought a home in Captain Cook. We call it Kona Palace. We now know that you can get a home for the price of a hotel room. I think for business or friends, the hotel is the way to go. If you want some space or privacy or romanticism or family friendly, i would pick a home.

You first arrive and park your car then follow the walkway through the door there is no signs telling you where the lobby is located. Left and around the a corner is the lobby and East tower, right goes to the West tower. The staff were all friendly from the front desk clerks to the parking attendants. The room was very clean, modern and spacious and bed was very comfortable. The main downside was the very thin walls. Every time a door closed nearby it shook the wall. In the middle of the night when the neighbors used the bathroom you could hear the toilet very clearly. The Kama'aina rate is a good value for the area and it's definitely better than Royal Kona, Uncle Billy's or Seaside.

Aloha,
Thank you for your review of the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. It’s so nice to see a review from one of our Kamaaina. While we’re happy to learn that you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay with us, it is however regrettable that the sounds originating from the doors outside your room were disruptive, we are sorry and hope that this did not take away from your overall experience. Thank you for your kind compliments for our staff and we hope that that you will allow us the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. Mahalo

Stayed here for three nights to start our visit, really liked it. Located right near many restaurants; the hotel restaurant is bit pricey but great food too. Rooms clean and cared for; not all rooms will have nice view of water. Hotel complex includes tour operators, grocery store, sandwich shop (great for takeout lunch), computer kiosk for airline checkin, workout room, pool, and small beach. Staff was friendly, from housekeeping to doormen. The small beach is good for beginning snorkelling, shallow but does have fish to see.

Good place to start a first visit to Kona.

If you are looking for a wonderful location and view in Kona, this hotel is a great option. It's walking distance (2 or 3 blocks) from the main shopping center in Kona and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We are traveling with my 94 year old grandmother and it is very easy for her to get around and the hotel's private beach makes it easy for her to enjoy the ocean. I would definitely stay here again.

The King Kamehameha Courtyard, Kailua Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is an exceptional experience for seasoned Marriott travelers. This Courtyard is like no other Courtyard you have visited. Great views of the pacific ocean, this property is nestled on a charming water sports cove adjacent to the small but bustling town of Kailua Kona. Outstanding value for money, wonderful breakfast buffets, and varied international cuisine complement the spacious Courtyard lobby and business lounge facilities common to mainland Courtyards.

As a lifetime platinum member, we received an upgrade to an ocean-view room, a yummy welcome gift, and many Marriott Rewards discount offers. These included platinum discounts for on sight spa services, meals, Easter dinner, boat tours and other attractions. We are spending twelve days here and have already saved hundreds of dollars in Marriott Reward discounts. Our many special thanks go to Niklas and his team including U'ilani, Haidee, Kristen, Mel and Elson. All the staff of Honu Restaurant, where you will enjoy a wonderful breakfast, will greet you with smiles and a bottomless cup of coffee. Don't forget to have a very reasonably priced Happy Hour cocktail with Pamela, Jessica, and Rusty at the Billfish Bar.You are at a Courtyard full of Aloha located at King Kamehameha's final home between 1812-1819. One final note, this Courtyard has a multimillion dollar traditional Hawaiian art exhibit and museum on the premises. This is truly and exceptional Courtyard in paradise. Mike K. & Alison M. on April 21, 2014.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side are quieter.

Great location, great hotel, AWESOME staff...the list goes on. We went to Kona for a week of training on the Ironman course. Was just a perfect trip and the hotel and definitely the staff made it extra special. The staff (front desk, cleaning, restaurant) were all super friendly and helpful. They solved all of our problems and catered to all of our requests and bikes. Was great to be able to walk out the door and just 1 minute to the pier to do some swimming (and swimming with dolphins) and then just up the road to the Queen K to ride the course. The pool was great and right on the beach. There was always a spot under an umbrella waiting for us after a long hot day of training. Overall a great place to stay!
