“Location! Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Right at the top of the Kona strip this is a convenient hotel with its own little beach and snorkel area. Has a good evening culture show. THE place to stay if you are training for or competing in the Iron Man triatholon-- it all happens right outside your door.
Small restaurants, dive shops, historical sites and the farmers' market all within a few blocks. Easy drives to Green Sands beach, Volcanoes National Park, and the north shore. Even Hilo on the opposite side of the island isn't far.
This is our go-to base for the big island.

Room Tip: Definitely an ocean view room.

We had a room in the west wing with a partial sea view on the forth floor. The room was a little tired but clean and well servcied. The view was very good overlooking the pool and beech area.
The position, service and food in the restaurant was excellent. We can recommend the Friday and Saurday night buffets with excellent snow crab legs!! Good Wifi in the room we were in and its free to guests. Staff were excellent we had stopped at the Royal Kona before but can recommend this hotel above them.

Room Tip: Upper west wing 460 and above

Just checked in to what is no more than a b level hotel. Paid for an ocean view and got the second floor over the lobby looking at a working pier in the small adjacent harbor. Spoke to the manager and got nowhere, with her saying that they were fully booked, etc.. I reminded her that I had paid top dollar over what the travel sites listed their rooms for, but no satisfaction there either. The room is considerably smaller than others we have had on our two week Hawaiian vacation. Waited for 20 minutes for someone to take our lunch order by the pool bar and gave up and went across the street. The beach is tiny and public. I will say that the pool itself is nice.

Room Tip: Try Royal Kona instead. Significantly nicer...

You'd think from the pictures that this was going to be a fantastic hotel, but let me tell you--its very average. Rooms are new and its in a good location but the pictures of the beach really don't show that its tiny and so is the pool. Prefer the Royal Kona -- more atmosphere

Aloha,
We appreciate you taking the time to review our property on Trip Advisor. I am sorry to hear that our hotel did not meet your expectations. We are fortunate to be in a great location and to have a sandy beach right outside our door step that provides great snorkeling and beach activities. Although it's disappointing to hear that your accommodations were not as anticipated, your feedback is greatly appreciated and we hope that you will give us another try in the future.

This is a large resort with all the bells and whistles but is very quiet and relaxing. If you want to see Hawaii without the hustle and bustle of a big city, Kona is the place. The pool and bar facilites are really good and across the road from a beach area. It is a short walk to the shops and to find food. It has all the facilities that you are after and more. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a balcony. There is wifi in the room and computers in the lobby. Staff are really helpful and we could hire a car from the hotel, no fuss. Our stay here was way too short, we wish we could have stayed longer. An ABC shop is part of the hotel, plus a coffee shop and other small stores. We will definitely be coming back here.

Room Tip: Hire a car from the motel lobby and drive around the island. Yoou can stop and check out the sights...

I wasn't so pleased to get a room on the 2nd floor, with the roof of the reception area outside the balcony as our view, but we had a little view of the ocean as well. Nice room with a little fridge. Beach small but nice to have one, pool as well. Very quiet, didn't get any "resort feeling". Nice little gym. We wanted to go to the luau but they were sold out. When we returned, staying at another place, the price for the luau was higher. Apparently you get a discount as a hotel guest. When I found out and asked for it, they were nice and offered us the lower price as we had stayed there a few days before.

Aloha!
I am very pleased to hear that you were able to come back and enjoy our oceanfront luau at the lower price. We do however sincerely regret that your accommodations were not as you had hoped in terms of the view. We appreciate your feedback and we would welcome the opportunity to host you in the future.

We stayed here as part of a package booked through Hawaiian airlines. The rooms are clean, comfortable and relatively new. Most (all?) have a small balcony. They appear to have been (well) renovated not too long ago. The rooms are quiet and the service is unobtrusive. The staff are very friendly. The location is great - right on the water front in Kailua. Many cafes, shops, bars and restaurants are easy walking distance. There is a big parking lot ($12 a night) which can fill up on luau nights. This is not a resort, you are on your own, although I'm sure the concierge would book things for you, if you wish. We thought that it was great value, although because it was part of a package, I'm not certain what we paid. I'd recommend at least a "partial ocean view" room. The roadside rooms in the east tower looked like they could get a bit noisy. Very satisfied.

Room Tip: Choose at least a partial ocean view. The west tower is probably quieter.
