“Newly Remodeled Courtyard by Marriott”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We stayed at this hotel in Nov 2011. The hotel is newly remodeled. Marriott recently took over the property.
The rooms are very nice and clean. We had a partial ocean view that was great! One of the best things is the hotel is located right on the ocean with a very short walk to old town Kona.
Very close to great restaurants and shopping. The snorkeling located right next to the hotel in the bay is good. Lots to see and the water is calm and great for swimming.
They offer a very nice pool with a bar in the same area.
The restaurant is ok, but I would recommend that you walk the very short distance to lots of other choices in old town.

When we return to Kona we will stay at this hotel!

Room Tip: The partial ocean view rooms are actually ocean view with additional views of old town Kona.

The location is great. You can stroll down the main street and catch boat trips from the pier just behind the hotel. There's a beach just behind the hotel (not exculsive to the hotel) which you overlook when eating your breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. There's cold and hot breakfast. Eggs are made to order and good service as well. The pool isn't big but the staff had the pool bar were very friendly. The rooms were big, clean and everything was in order. The conceirge was very helpful with trip booking. Apart from free wi-fi there's also free internet at the business centre. My room overlooked the front of the hotel and I wasn't disturbed at all by noise at night. Maybe its the time of year that I visited but all the restaurants closed down at 10pm. I would definitely stay again.

Great central location....whatever you want to do, you can get there from here and the concierge is genuinely helpful and friendly. I do usually prefer a more isolated experience on the islands of Hawaii, but you just can't beat the combination of price, location, and service.

We stayed for just one might at the end of our trip and it was great for the location especially, right on the water and in downtown Kona. The biggest downside was how busy and rowdy the public spaces were. We did not hang out by the pool or in the lounge as they were too noisy and crowded. We were ok with that because we had spent the rest of our trip in a nice relaxing condo in the Kohala area. The hotel itself was very nice. We had a basic king room and did not pay extra for a view and were happy with the small ocean view off our balcony.

Thiis hotel recovered from the Maech 2011 tsunami very well. It was old and dated before that, and the Courtyard/Marriott brand has changed all that. Great location, good value and free wi-fi. The only thing that bugs me is the daily parking fee. Just another way to gouge the customer... come on guys!

We arrived late and woke up to find our partial ocean view room (557) was a sliver of ocean, 60% parking lot, and 20% smelly dumpster. This was quite disappointing (especially the dumpster) , since I paid extra for the room, but I wasn't about repack all of our stuff and change rooms so I didn't bother complaining.

The beach is not much of a beach, but adequate for little ones to play in the sand and get their feet wet. There is also a water activity hut if you want to rent paddle boards, kayaks, etc. If you are willing to drive, we found a good beach about 20 minutes north, across from the cemetery.

The hotel itself is very much typical Courtyard Marriott, not luxurious but comfortable. The room looked like it was renovated within the last few years, all the furnishings were in good shape, and most importantly the bathroom was modern and clean. The location is also very convenient, walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops around the pier. It is also very close to the Kona Coast Shopping Center where you can find a grocery store, pretty Vietnamese restaurant (Ba Le), Starbucks, and other strip mall type businesses.

I was considering one of resorts on the beach up north before booking here but glad I didn't. Hapuna Beach would have been too isolated. The full service Marriott at Waikoala, might have been ok, but it was so windy when I visited that I didn't even bother trying to get on the beach. Ended up heading to the beach back south.

I found the staff to be warm and friendly for the most part. Housekeeping did an exceptionally good job keeping room clean and stocked. The front desk comped our very late checkout which was really nice.

Overall, very good value for what you are paying, just skip the partial ocean view.

P.S. Parking was $10 a night when I was there, but I got a couple of mangos out of it so it wasn't so bad.

Room Tip: Avoid the SW corner of the West wing. There is a huge smelly dumpster there as well as lots of vent...

Thank for taking the time to share your experience about your recent stay. The hotel appreciates the feedback and I'll be sure to share it with the rest of the team.
I am sorry to hear that the view from your partial ocean view room did not meet your expecatations. We do have partial ocean view rooms that face the poolside that may have been a better view for you. If you find yourself coming our way again, please consider requesting a poolside room; I think you would find them very suitable for your needs.
Thank you and I hope that we can welcome you back very soon.

My two sisters and I stayed here on a whim. After a fiasco with a condo rental, we needed a place to stay. Having driven into town and recognized the Marriott sign outside we were able to book a room via the Internet on a handy-dandy iPhone on the spot! The rate was reasonable and our room was standard, modern and clean as you'd find with this type of hotel. The pool was beautiful and the beach access area was great! Nice little shops and resturaunt. Great location as a nice walk led you to anything your palate could desire.
