What more can be said? Read the other reviews on this site and then follow the Frommer's Guidebook recommendation to "Book this place!". We've stayed at Silver Oaks twice, on our first visit to Hawaii over Christmas '04 and just recently in late June '06. Amy and Rick have been wonderful and very helpful over both stays - they even provided a large photo of a volcanic flow after we mentioned an interest in Volcanos Park! The location is great, away from the hustle-bustle, but close enough to be in town in a few minutes or at a perfect beach in half an hour. The miniature goats and turkeys are a hoot - the accommodations are outstanding - as other have said, really "a home away from home"", but located in a real "paradise". Most relaxing vacation ever...

From our initial telephone conversation we knew we would like Silver Oaks Ranch, but Amy’s helpful responses to our queries did not prepare us for the elegance of our apartment when we arrived. It was immaculate, spacious, handsomely furnished, and fully equipped. Amy and Rick hadn’t omitted anything that might contribute to their guests’ comfort. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for a week’s tasty breakfasts and right next door were a washer and dryer for our accumulated laundry. The location, high on the shoulder of the mountain, ensured cool air (it can be hot in Kona, even in May) and provided sweeping views of coastline and sea, but town was only a few miles away. One of the guidebooks urges: “Book this place!” We’re glad we did.

We loved staying at Silver Oaks Ranch. The location is close enough to downtown Kona and to lots of beaches, but still very secluded and safe. I can't imagine another place where our eight year old son could play safely outside without a parent glued to him. We stayed in the Ranch View Cottage. The bed was comfortable and I loved the swing on the front porch. Next time I am on the Big Island, I will definitely stay at Silver Oaks. The Decker's are wonderful hosts and very informative. This is a time in my life that I will never forget.

This was our family's second stay at Silver Oaks Ranch. We absolutely love this place. The hosts are fabulous. They are very gracious and always willing to make suggestions to make your stay even better. They are a wealth of information about beaches, restaurants and other Big Island activities. The accommodations were very comfortable. We commented that we felt right at home at the ranch. The location is very convenient for Big Island activites, but you are still away from the "touristy" area of downtown Kona and the resort area. Silver Oaks is also very kid friendly. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the Big Island!
