We have just returned from a week at Silver Oaks Ranch in Kailua Kona Hawaii. The "ranch" consists of the home of the owners, Amy and Rick Decker, as well as several free-standing rental units. Animals on the ranch include many miniature goats, a horse and miniature donkey, free range chickens, and a "band" of several bachelor turkeys who promenade displaying their beautiful plummage from time to time; in the event there is an interested female nearby!!! Our unit had all modern amenities and our hosts initially provided comprehensive breakfast materials and fruit which actually lasted us all five days. The unit was furnished with wonderful furniture, a television, DVD player and stereo and a "luscious" king size bed which was like sleeping on a cloud. A large new washer and dryer was available for our use at any time. The hosts provided a wonderful guide with suggestions about local dining opportunities which we found very helpful. Although the property was located near a major highway which provided easy access to attractions, restaurants, and shopping it was very quiet and felt secluded; located down a long private driveway. The property was bordered with wonderful plants including banana and papaya trees. All of these beautiful physical surroundings would certainly cause us to return to Silver Oaks Ranch but the most important asset on this property were the owners; Amy and Rick Decker. Our hosts were always available for providing information but they were not intrusive in any way. In short, it felt like we were visiting friends who helped us feel more than welcome. My wife and I just returned from this great setting above the main town but just a short drive to everything. We had a large cottage to ourselves with private lanai, hot tub, fully appointed kitchen. Owners Amy and Rick were very friendly and offered great advice about restaurants, where to snorkle, etc. Provided us with computer and internet access, snorkle gear, beach towels, everything we needed. We also loved interacting with their animals including a bunch of very friendly goats and the most talkative cat we've ever met.

What else can be said that hasn't been? The location is great, the hosts are wonderful and have everything you could ever need for your vacation (towels, snorkel geat, beach shoes (yes - tons of different sizes!), coolers, a stocked fridge of drinks, washer/dryer, fresh fruit and about 100 other things.

Amy was terrific at welcoming us and making us feel at home. She also managed the careful balance of being available to answer questions and give advice (and let us get to know the animals!), while not being around too much so we could just spend time together on our honeymoon. The accomodations were great and the ranch is a perfcet launching off place being close enough to the popular Kona areas while not feeling like you are in a hotel strip.

This really is one of those places that you can give an unqualified recommendation for.

Amy and Rick are gracious hosts. The property is beautiful. It's set in the mountains with ocean views, and although it's removed from Kona, it's an advantage (cooler weather). I've stayed at Silver Oaks 4 times and I would definitely return again.
