“Fantastic - An Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

Wendy and Kona Dave were absolutley amazing hosts. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights on the second leg of our Hawaiian honeymoon and had a fantastic time. The breakfasts are amazing - every morning was a delectable creation that surpassed our expectations.
The knowledge and kindess and extensive preperation that they bring to the host/guest experience puts this B&B over the top.
The decor, cleanliness, comfort, and eye to detail make this a great base when visiting the Big Island.
If you're looking a first class stay, located only 10 minutes from Kona airport and many amazing restaurants for dinner you're in luck. We did our trips during the day looked forward to turning in at Honu Kai at night.

It really is difficult to add anything which hasn't been said already about Honu Kai. But it is all true. The gardens are exotic and tropical. The lanai is relaxing and spacious. The room was incredibly comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bathroom had a great shower and lovely products. Breakfast was delicious and sociable. But what really is the cherry on the icing on the cake. What raises Honu Kai above other great B&Bs are Wendi and Dave, amazing hosts who do everything they can to make your stay in their home very, very special.

Mahalo Justin for your review of our Hale, the Hawaiian word for home, which we love to share with all of our guests. We wish you could have stayed longer with us as well. It's called the "Big Island" for a reason, it's big! Our average stay at Honu Kai is 5 nights and this island is easily an 8 day island. We try very hard to share this fact with future guests and try to persuade them to give the Big Island the time it deserves. We are here to help visitors have the best time possible and to experience the many hidden secrets which we can help you explore.
We look forward to another visit from the both of you so we can share the many things you missed on this last stay.
Mahalo Nui Loa,
Wendi & Dave

We make a habit of staying at B&B's, and this one is just paradise. The entire place is like a spa - there are fountains everywhere, with soft music, beautiful plants...it is one of the most relaxing places I've ever been to. The room itself was awesome (we stayed in Nigori). A beautiful bathroom with a great shower and tub, a cedar-lined closet that I wanted to live in just because of the smell, and beautiful vaulted ceilings with a big bed and Asian-inspired decor. The place is impeccably clean, and so tranquil. I slept wonderfully there.

All this, and I haven't even mentioned the hosts - Wendi and Dave are two wonderful people. They made us feel like family, which is pretty amazing, since I suspect they make everyone feel like family! They are so kind and helpful. And the breakfasts - wow!

I can't say enough positive things about this place. Please, go and check it out for yourself!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Nigori Room - absolutely beautiful!

Wendi and Dave are excellent hosts. They were so helping us directions when needed. They made us feel at home and like family. The breakfasts are the best you can get , and the best we had at any b and b. They were homemade and from fruits they grow on the property. They provided snacks as you went on your adventures around the island. The rooms were beautiful and the property was so beautifully manicured and peaceful. We only wish we had discovered this b and b before when we visited the island, we didn't want to leave. Thank you so much Wendi and Dave. We got so spoiled by you. Cathy and George (Your Hansel and Gretel)!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lani Room...in the treetops!!!

Mahalo George and Cathy, not just for your great review, but for choosing to stay with us. We really enjoyed the both of you and wish you could have stayed longer than the 2 days you did. This is called the Big Island for a reason. It's BIG! Our average stay at Honu Kai is 5 nights, and the Big Island is easily an 8 day island. If you're planning a trip to the Big Island, make Honu Kai your first stop and allow us to help you have the best experience possible. Through our island knowledge we can help you plan and give you recommendations to make your stay on Hawaii the best possible. Even if you choose to only stay with us for 2 nights. Come to the Big Island for the experience and stay at Honu Kai for the Aloha. We can share with you the key to unlock Hawaii's many hidden secrets.

My husband and I returned to the Honu Kai for our trip back to The Big Island. This time we stayed at the condo because the B & B was full. The condo was nicely appointed, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and beach access immensely. Beach towels, coolers etc. were all available for us.

Having said all that we certainly missed the fabulous breakfasts prepared daily by the gracious hosts, Dave and Wendi Wasson when you stay at the B & B.

We will return to The Big Island and we will go back to the Honu Kai. It just feels like home...

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong on any place you choose.

Mahalo Captain Phil and Susan for your return visit to us and for your review of Honu Kai's sister property, our Golf Villas condo at the exclusive Mauna Lani Resort. We missed having you as well for our breakfasts at the B&B, but glad you enjoyed the totally different experience staying at our condo. It was great getting together with you again during your visit to the island, and we REALLY enjoyed the great barbeque dinner you cooked for us at the condo. It's not very often that we're up at our condo and we have someone else doing the cooking. :)
Mahalo for mentioning to future guests that you found our condo, "nicely appointed, clean and comfortable". I think it's important to mention to anyone thinking about staying at the condo, that we did not purchase this property as a rental unit, but rather as our home which we lived in before buying the B&B. When we moved out of the condo, we left it as it was when we lived there, with all the high end furnishings, upgrades, and kitchen supplies. We are also one of the few owners who rent that actually live on island. What does this mean to you as a renter? Well, if you have any issues or questions about the property, we're here to immediately address it. If you need any suggestions or help planning your time on our island, we're here to help you. If you have a special request such as a massage in the condo, we can help set that up for you. We are your on island concierge service. We hope everybody reading this review will give us the opportunity to share this magical island with you, and give you that special Hawaii experience that will be a treasured memory forever.

Wendy and Dave were great. It was a beautiful place and so relaxing. I looked forward the the wonderful breakfast every morning. PoPo the cat was even great. My husband is a huge Dallas cowboy fan and it did not hurt that Wendy is an ex-Dallas cowboy cheerleader? Wonderful experience & would recommend it to anyone. we are just sad we did not stay there longer. If we are ever on the big island again we will definitely stay there.

Green Features: It is paradise. We saw solar panels on the roof. Beautiful greenery every where. they have all kinds of fruit trees on their property, a lot of it we had with breakfast.

Mahalo Janna for your review and for mentioning that Honu Kai is a green property. The electricity here on Hawaii is very expensive as it is generated by diesel fuel which we all know is not cheap. We are proud to have made the investment in our solar system which now supplies almost 100% of our electricity. Mo betta for us, mo betta for our environment. We also have a recycle program here at Honu Kai which greatly reduces what goes into our island land fill. The Honu Kai property also has many fruit bearing trees such as banana, avocado, mango, papaya, macadamias, coffee and coconuts. Many of which we do serve with our 3 course breakfast from our certified and permitted kitchen.
I suppose I should also say mahalo for mentioning our Dallas Cowboys. We all know the only thing consistent about the Cowboys are their Cheerleaders.
We hope you plan another visit to our Big Island so we can enjoy your company once again.
Mahalo Nui Loa and a Big Island Aloha from your new island friends,
Wendi and Kona Dave
