I did not personally book the trip, however the process seemed very easy for our group of three. The trip was great! Certainly a highlight not only of my trip to Kona, but of all the visits I've made to the Hawaiian islands. We looked into the different tour options rather thoroughly, even before we arrived as swimming with Mantas was something we knew we wanted to do. Very pleased we chose Sunlight on Water! We knew we would likely go to a location that other tour operators used, but it was nice to be the first ones there. The Captain and crew were fantastic! Personable, professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Since we were there just a little earlier than the others, the lights we were under had a great attraction of plankton, and there was no shortage of Mantas! We captured some AMAZING footage on a GoPro, but they also took photos and video that were posted on Facebook, which was a great touch. They also provided me with a prescription mask at no additional charge.
To no fault of Sunlight on Water's, the only thing I found annoying was actually the other tour operators. A very large boat and a couple of kayak groups full of people came out to the same location as us, which would be fine, but the Mantas were staying primarily right under us, so other people just crowded our small group. It probably wouldn't have annoyed me, but the leader of one of these groups was yelling constantly at the people on his tour (granted they should have been following his instructions so he didn't have to scream at them in the first place), and they kept crowding us so much that I was kicked a couple of times, which I certainly didn't appreciate. I could have done without the extra yelling and kicking, but the Mantas were so amazing that it was worth it!
As it is an evening tour (and maybe just because we are from Arizona), it can get chilly once you're out of the water, so plan ahead and bring something warm to put on. They served refreshments and snacks, and even hot cocoa once we were done. My only regret was that we did not do the dolphin swim!!
