“Sunny Kua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Great sandy beach, toilets, no water for the outdoor shower, though. Beautiful place to body surf and boogie board, but if you are looking for shade, watch out! Very Sunny!

“Secret beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

I’ve heard this beach is for local. There is no point on sightseeing map. The beach is located few miles north ahead from Kona Int’l airport. We can not see a signal “Manini'owali Beach” at the entrance. Landmark is a couple of peak of mountains in a left side and a cemetery in a right side. I was so impressed to see such a beautiful white sand and clear deep blue sea. I think sand might be carried from main land, so there are lava rocks seemed to be new near here. Parking is small, lots are filled up soon. There are showers and toilets, but showers were not available. I recommend coming here until 900a.m. and bringing umbrella for shade.

“50 shades of blue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Beautiful sand beach with coral reef on either side. We went on a Saturday so parking was on the road but still only a short walk and the beach itself could have handled alot more people. Plenty of fish to see very close to shore.

“The best beach on Big Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

This beach is amazing. Blue water, paved road, parking, white sand, good snorkeling arount the rocks. Not much shade, bring the umbrella. Also, bring food and drinks, they don't have any for sale there. If you drive from Kona (north on Highway 19), the beach will be on the left. There is no sign, but when you see a sign for Veterans Cemetery on your right, make a left turn and there is a road that will take you to the beach.

“Breathtaking beauty!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We left Kona headed toward Hupana Beach since it was billed as a top experience in Kona. My advice is to let everyone else drive right past Kua Bay so it's less crowded for you. The colors of the water are the most gorgeous I've ever seen. Turquoise, aquamarine, cobalt . . .there aren't enough words to describe the beauty. The beach is clean, fine white sand. While there are shower and restroom facilities, they were out of order in late August when we visited. There is little shade or parking. Get there early, enjoy the morning and head out for lunch at the Bite Me Fish Market on your way back to town. Don't miss this beach!
