“Make this your last choice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

The staff were very unaccommodating ( do it yourself ) bordering on rude and leave a bad taste to start . The clubhouse facilities are at best poor (very small very outdated no service ) Old style noisy golf carts that can be exciting or even dangerous on this very hilly course . The course is in poor condition and hole after hole is either straight up or straight down . If you can do anything else you won't have missed much .

“Nice course, ultra slow play”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

This is a really nice golf course at a moderate price. It is located in the mountains and the views are stunning, as are the peacocks. The course was in good shape because of recent rains and it is challenging, to say the least, without being unfair. However, the pace of play was pathetic. It took the 3 of us 5.5 hours to play eighteen holes, not helped in the least by the fact that we were following two twosomes! Why this was not made into a foursome is beyond me. Complimenting the starter at the end of our round on the course I added that the pace of play was poor. He said, in a completely pleasant way, that I should come back in the summer and the course would be wide open! Yes, I imagine it would be. I would play this course again but would bring a lunch!

“Good value in the clouds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

This course was a pleasure to play. Carved into the side of a mountain, count on plenty of elevation changes and downhill/uphill shots. Course was in good condition, greens were excellent. I found this to be a good value compared to some of the resorts, especially with a Golf Now hot rate. When the clouds rolled in around 10am it was pleasantly cool, although this hampered some of the views towards the ocean. You'll see plenty of birdlife, from peacocks to even Nene geese.

On the downside, the driving range was just average; hitting surface is grass but the range is on a steep downhill slope. Picturesque but hard to get a read on yardage.

All in all, it was a nice course and a unique experience.

Tip: No matter what you read, the greens always, ALWAYS break towards the ocean.

“Makalei Country Club”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

This is a mountain course. Lots of up or down fairways. (The course goes up the hill and than back down.)Mostly target golf. However, it is a fair course and you will need to play this course several times to get a feel for it. Conditions are so, so. T-boxes, fairways and greens tend to thin and chopped up. It's beautiful course to look at. $55 to 85.

“Good locals course”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

I'm not a big golfer but we a fun morning out on this course. The birds that live on the course are gorgeous. The "club house" is a bit lacking. Feels like a trailer. Still it has a nice pro shop.
