“Restful ocean stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2006

We stayed in Unit 2 right on the ocean! We loved sitting on the lani and enjoying the ocean thru out the day and evening. The unit was clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well stocked with needed kitchen items. A great place to stay- we will come again!

We just stayed at #182 at Kona Surf & Racket. The place is in an EXCELLENT location and the price was good, but definitely aging. Lots of little problems that can't be considered "deal-breakers", but annoying. Stuff such as some windows not operable, towel hangers ready to fall off walls, lower shower spurts water everywhere. The place needs about $20,000 put into it to update and fix up.

BUT, it was clean and mainly free of pests. You can't get away from ants anywhere in Hawaii, but just don't ever leave food out/open. It's a little small, but we had 2 adults and 3 kids and it worked fine. You get what you pay for here and the rental folks were very nice. If you plan to head anywhere outside of KONA (north OR south), do not travel during commuting hours...it's horrible on the main highway.

We stayed for a week in 2005 at unit 2-302 (contact Bruce Shamp @ aquarec---). We had an awesome time. The snorkling down the street is some of the best in all of Hawaii. The grocery and drug store is a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of good waterfront walking trails through the golf course next door. The owners have thought of everything you need in the unit. LOVED the view, the pool was adequate, and the location south of town was a plus.

My husband, brother- and sister-in-law, and I spent five days in Unit #178 at the Surf & Racquet Club in mid June of 2005. It was a real treat to stay in this wonderfully decorated and clean condo. Three years ago we stayed in a different unit at the S&RC and that was not nearly as lovely as #178 (and it cost more!). The owners were wonderful to work with and I would classify their customer service as first-rate. Thank you, Susan and Orise! The unit was just as represented (maybe even better). The check-in and check-out process was trouble-free. Our deposit was refunded very promptly. Anyone wishing a truly Hawaiian experience will not be disappointed in this condo. You cannot get any closer to the ocean. The Surf & Racquet Club is a lovely property and QUIET. The only sounds you hear are the waves breaking just a few steps away. Kailua-Kona is just a short drive. Would definitely want to stay in Unit #178 on our next visit to the Big Island. Anyone planning a trip to the BI should not hesitate to book this condo. Aloha!

we stayed in unit 195 KS&RC for three weeks.
we had planned this trip for over a year. It was our wedding trip.
The tv didn't work. The walls were falling apart. The unit was infested with Ants.
We left 5 days early and stayed at the Hale Kameole on Maui.
Other than unit 195 KS&RC is a great complex.

We (2 adults, 3 kids, 12,9,4) stayed here for 5 days last June. It was so perfect that I didn't post my review until we were certain we wouldn't be able to return over the Christmas holidays!
The condo is large, tastefully decorated in a Japanese theme (we loved the screen divider between the main bedroom and the living room)and has a huge wrap-around balcony. The owners had left a well stocked cupboard with body boards, beach toys, towels etc and the kitchen had everything imaginably necessary. The youngest children enjoyed the dvd player in the second bedroom.
The pool on the complex was good and shopping and restaurants are a short drive or walk up the hill outside the complex. The location is also a good central point on the island for visiting the various volcanoes to the east and south and the best beach on the island (about 45 minutes to the north). We very much enjoyed the proximity to the sea and listening to the surf breaking on the rocks below the balcony. In the summer, at least, this is soothing rather than distracting.
The one downside to the condo is the lack of air conditioning in the summer. Although there are several fans, they were not able to disperse the heat that built up during the day when we were out and the condo was locked up. We were a bit sticky in the evening as a consequence.
Overall, however, we would definitely return to this location and to this condo in particular. Definitely a good find and great value at the price.

We had such a great month here that we sent home for our son and new wife to join us for a week. The resort has everything we could ask for including other friendly travelers Even the groundspeople greeted us every day. We felt so welcome and safe that we have opted to go again in 2006! This time our son, his wife and family are returning on their own and have taken a condo next to ours. A wonderful place for all ages young and old.
