“Awesome Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

My husband and I spent two weeks in Kailua-Kona, HI at the beginning of November and went to Island Lava Java on three different days; once for lunch, once for breakfast and once fo dinner. Each of the meals was fantastic and more food than either of us could finish. My husband had the fish tacos and I had a turkey sandwich; both sound like usual restaurant fare but they weren't at all. Beautifully presented and delicious. Their breakfast selection is great and I thoroughly enjoyed a belgian waffle, which was huge. The evening we went for dinner, we shared an appetizier of cheeses, capers, Hawaiin honey, toasted bread and salami and then I had the Nicoise Salad which was fantastic; the tuna was done to perfection and again there was so much food, I couldn't finish it. My husand had a handmade pizza with toppings he selected himself and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Recommend a table outside so you can see the ocean and enjoy the breeze coming off the water. The staff at Island Lava Java was exactly what we enjoy....friendly, fun, witty and willing to provide information if you have questions about what to do, where to tour, etc. The restaurant doesn't have a liquor license so there is no bar service; however, if you want to bring your own wine, they will accommodate you by providing glasses and a cooler to keep it chilled.

Just an all around fantastic place to have a meal!

“Disappointed this visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

After looking forward to a meal at Lava Java this year, we were disappointed in the service, the price and the size of the portions. A breakfast that we enjoyed one block away had larger portions for less cost with the same amazing view and very pleasant servers.

“Pricy but Tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

The food here is on the pricy side. Breakfast is more of a bargain but dinner is $15 to $25. I guess for Ali'i drive that isn't too bad but don't expect a bargain like you can find elsewhere in Kona. The fish was excellently prepared and the accompanying dishes were excellent. The atmosphere is very nice. (it is Hawaii after all) Great place for a night out!

“Super Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

The restaurant had delicious food. Lots of selection on the menu for meat choices plus there were vegetarian options. The Kona restaurant is right overlooking the water and is gorgeous at night. We would most certainly return again on another trip.

“Great Breakfast and now with live music”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Lava Java is definitely a staple in the Kona area. Always busy - which definitely does mean something, and there is a reason. Best fresh-squeezed orange juice ever, and terrific breakfasts. I am equally certain their lunches and dinners are the same, but have yet to try those. Not only with a great view, right across the street from the ocean, but since we have been there last, they have added wonderful live music. Not a rock and roll band to wake you up, but we've heard wonderful Hawaiian music plus the classics.

We love it here - you will too. And, oh yea, my husband says the Java is great too.
