“Great Breakfast spot with large portions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This was one of the best breakfast place we had on our trip. It has a diner feel and is located in a strip mall area. This is place where the locals go not just the tourists. You can tell the staff knew a lot of the people who came in. The service was very friendly. We ordered the eggs, French toast and pancakes. The whole family enjoyed their meals. The pancakes were big and the French toast slices nice and thick. They also had some local and Asian food available for breakfast. The prices were reasonable and a good value for what you got. It is worth going here and would have gone again if stayed in the area a little longer.

“Great local food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you are looking for some great local food, I make it to the Big Island Grill every trip. The Loco Moco now comes with options, but still my favorite. Be hungry....it's large portions!

“Large Portions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I read a review that mentioned this restaurant was formerly a McDonalds - which helped us find it! The roofline does indeed still resemble a McDonalds. Luckily we came during a non-busy time (about 4pm in the afternoon), so we didn't have to wait. The food was delicious. I had the chicken katsu & roasted pork, my husband had the loco moco (you can choose whatever meats you want). Both dishes were insanely huge (we probably could have shared a plate). But it was very good - just what we were looking for... old school plate lunch!

“Great value- consistently great food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

Huge portions- friendly, local service. The Teri beef is the best you'll find in Kona. Salads are huge and very filling as a meal. I highly suggest saving room for dessert and getting their BIG island pie- coconut haupia ice cream cake with all sorts of yummy things on it. Great family restaurant!

“Yummy Loco Moco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Big Island Grill is more like a family restaurant. Saw many locals and tourists as well. Friendly efficient waitress who gave suggestions as to which meat for the loco moco. Chickent Katsu which was excellent. The loco moco sounds weird but it really was good. Rice, meat , gravy with fried eggs on top.My husband had a regular breakfast and he said it was very good. Good price as well.
