At a friend's suggestion, I visited Umeke's for lunch on my recent visit to Hawaii. It is a small establishement with eating bench tables outside adjacent to the enclosed cooking area. The parking lot is small and monitored for adherence to an hour parking limit. Having said that, you might think that those would negatively affect my review.....hold on....it does not. The food (I had the fried ahi with aoli sauce, two scoops of rice with arare sprinkled on top, macaroni salad on the side and ho'io). The food and sauce was FANTASTIC!!! The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection! The accompanying dishes---compliment and do not detract from the main course. I also tried their poke....again, fresh, tasty and unforgettable. I've eaten at one other similar establishment and was not impressed enough to write a review for them. The food is reasonably priced.....and well worth a visit---Nakoa, the cook and owner is a very hospitable guy and the gal at the cash register, super nice. More than happy that I found and tried this great place with great food!!
