“Lovely Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We stayed there for 2 nights Sep 2013. Arrived late at night and there was no where to get a bite to eat or a glass of wine? What's up with that. It is an expensive place with nothing close by. Nice property but a long way away from anything. Pools are great and food was very good. We sat at Ray's and had a great evening. The Manta Rays were the highlight. Probably would not stay there mainly because I like more options for meals and to drive and have a glass of wine is not an option so had to stay on property.

Just came back from a 5 night stay at this hotel. Couple things to note - I used SPG points to stay there, used my suite night upgrades for an upgrade, I am lifetime gold / 75 night platinum in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) system.

In short, I'd happily stay here again if using points, but if I had to pay for it I might check other options.

my comments:
- location is pretty central, but being 20 minutes away from restaurants did mean we ate dinner on site more than we would have liked. it's a quiet location.
- agreed with other reviewers on inconsistency of staff, some were amazing, some were...unhelpful
- the hotel seems to offer many extras, like the shuttle, etc, but they are not well communicated. Think I learned more reading these reviews than I did while there!
- SPG status came with free continental breakfast, worth $10 to upgrade to full buffet, but no way is that buffet worth the full price of $25
- there is no beach. you can see this in the pictures. just keep it in mind!
- had a great, tho pricey, lomi lomi massage outside at the spa. coconut oil scalp massage was a great add-on (tho you may have to shampoo your hair several times to get the oil out)
- Platinum comments: did get the suite night upgrades, tho not to the best suite, and the front desk was kind enough to let us check out late since we were taking a redeye

Room Tip: the red side seems to be the uninterrupted ocean views.

We stayed here for three nights. The good part is its convenient location and has restaurant from where you can view the manta rays.
However the hotel is very poorly managed. When we checked in I requested to room upgrade as it was our honeymoon the front desk lady rudely denied it and then started lecturing me that it takes gold or platinum membership to do that. This is just not a good way to treat your customer. I was given room keys without any direction. This resort is quite spread out and there are barely any signs or staff anywhere. We got lost as we couldn't find the elevator. We called the front desk requesting us to kindly direct us to the room and elevator. The lady was rude and said there are sign posted which I challenged her that there are none.
Overall I do not recommend this place due to poor management.

This hotel is located on the old fishing village at Keauhou Bay. It is very quiet setting. Hotel offers the Manta Ray from Rays on the Bay restaurant in the evening. It was amazing experience! Hotel also offers free Cultural tour around the hotel including the old fishing village. I took the tour and I saw a group of Dolphins nearby the hotel. I was so excited! Hotel has a very nice and big pool and a water slide facing the ocean. This pool is very fun for everyone. All restaurants are facing the ocean too.

Room Tip: Ocean view or Ocean front rooms.

I really love this hotel. If you want to rest, forget about everything, this is your best choice. The pool just great, I got an ocean view room, great.you don't have to leave the hotel, got everything in there, next to the hotel is a place to get tours to do snorkel, and plenty stuffs. Probably the only "bad" thing is that is not close at all from town, but neither the other good hotels are, so, this is a great choice. I will come back for sure.

From the moment you are welcomed to the hotel you know your going to have a great stay here.
The staff are fab whichever area of the hotel you are in. Poolside service staff are great they remember your name and your order. The room was beautiful and beautiful, cleaned everyday and in perfect condition. The view from the room was beautiful it was a garden view but you could also see the ocean. Great size balcony to sit and have a cocktail on.
The rays on the bay restaurant never failed to impress. Great food, great location and great service.
They put on a free bus to the Kona area, our only complaint is that it could be run later into the evening, 9pm is too early.
Other than that excellent stay. We stayed here mid vacation before going onward to Honolulu

Many of the brand-name hotels in Hawaii were built in out-of-the-way locations on beautiful beaches. Overtime, towns and amenities have grown up around them. Without researching the hotel's entire history that seems like the case here.

It is a big resort-style hotel overlooking the ocean. And yes, the building is a bit dated, and you really need a car to get in and out of the hotel, but the interior is still beautiful even ten years after the big 2004 renovation.

We stayed the night there after having visited the volcanoes and staying in a local hotel in the town Volcano. The Sheraton is about 45 minutes to the airport. We were traveling with 3 young teenagers who were done with walking and exploring the parks.

Lobby was beautiful, Hawaiian modern style.
Check-in/out was slow. No concierge to answer questions or check out DVDs so lines took a long time. There was some issue with our reservation which took time to figure out.

ACCOMMODATION

Rooms were very nice. A/C worked well - able to adjust as well as open door to balcony.
I loved our Ocean view which had us turned towards the island.

Pools were small and not very deep. Great for young kids or paddling. Difficult to do laps.
We choose the hotel because of the slide and lazy river. My kids enjoyed for about a half an hour. They were too old for it.

RESTAURANTS

Poolside restaurant and service was good at the tables. Staff was good.
Poolside service quite slow.
Rays on the Bay restaurant was the highlight. There is a viewing platform to watch the rays attracted by the lights shining on the ocean. My kids loved watching the rays. Rays by the Bay has a wonderful ambiance. The food was fine, although I cannot even remember what we ate.
Breakfast was fast enough. There was a coffee kiosk.

It was a great stop for staying a day and enjoying the pool and beautiful sunset. It was not super exciting but it all depends on what you are looking for. Still a very nice property.
