“Sheraton has been significantly renovated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

A thoroughly pleasant experience. It has been great to witness the rebirth of this great hotel. I can easily recommend this to anyone. We were planning on a 6-week trip to the Big Island but revised plans to go to Kauai for a few days after arriving in Kona. We decided to use the Sheraton as our layover - a terrific choice. We had no idea the place had changed so much. Terrific for all our needs. Did not have time to stick around for breakfast or the Spa so those are not rated in this review.

Room Tip: We spent a night at the Sheraton as a connective between a trip to the Big Island and Kauai - A week...

We stayed at this hotel between 13 and 20 October 2012. The hotel overall looks very nice and the rooms are very nice.Where it goes wrong is service. It looks like they want to, but have no clue how to; especially housekeeping. This is a spa and resort now, so you think you will be treated like you don't have to ask every time. One day you have 4 towels, next day 2. One day you have mouthwash and shower gel, the other day you don't. That gets annoying after awhile. And something else: try to avoid getting a room at wing 4. This is the higher part of the hotel. It has long, dull and bad lighted halls: sort of dungeon. We stayed in the beginning of it, which was ok, but the further you go in the hall, the more depressing it looks. And it is very hollow, so you hear everything very clear; even when you're in your room..
Furthermore, I guess, doesn't the reception have any clue where to place customers. You would think, they would put family with kids next to other family with kids as much as possible. Wrong!!! So elderly people have a room next to screaming kids. Those things make it for me that hotels like these aren't really a spa and resort. Must say that the breakfast is perfectly done; good food and a good crew. We also liked the Manta Ray Restaurant there. Very pleasant people and nice view on the ocean, nice food and good ambiance. No complains . Gladly, because within 5 miles of this complex you have only restaurants in the mall , And let me tell you: that isn't the sort of malls you find in Maui of Kauai. It is more like your home mall. Not much atmosphere. The area were The hotel is situated, had an hawaiian feeling; much more then the populair The Kohala Coast. THat has very nice beaches, but it looks like an oases in a desert. Outside the complexes the ares is very dry with hardly an vegetation.

Room Tip: As mentioned try to avoid a room in wing 4, which is the higher part of the hotel. Rooms are good an...

Great historic trail and ancient sites in and around the facility. I especially loved the free walking tour. I learned a lot from this. Warm hospitality and great service. Rocky shore though so it's not beach front. Very quiet and secluded enough. I recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Get the waterfront rooms. I sleep better hearing the ocean waves. At night you can see manta ray d...

Nicely renovated and an exceptional value for the price.

Pros
Nicely renovated and good value for the price.
Clean rooms, beautiful landscaping
Restaurant good and reasonably priced.

Cons
Quite a range of people at the pool. Are these all guests in the hotel? Rowdy groups of teens around water slide.
If you go there don't bring expensive sandals to the pool. I brought some limited edition Crocs, put them by my chair, went in the water and when I returned they were gone. Definitely stolen since we checked everywhere. Don't leave any valuables poolside.

This resort was great for our 1wk stay in Kona. There is a shuttle bus, but it stops running at the inconvenient time of 8pm, so if you do any evening activity in town you need to pay for a cab back (about $30). Rooms are spacious and clean, with huge balconies. The toilets are strangely industrial, but besides being odd they are fine. There was no beach access here, but beautiful pool almost makes up for it. The restaurant has excellent fish tacos and spectacular views of the huge manta rays swimming just off the rocky shores.

Room Tip: The "ocean view" just overlooks the pool for most rooms, so save yourself the $ and go for...

A friend and I stayed here on he first few nights of our Hawaii holiday and loved it. We arrived about 11am and our ocean front room was ready, which after flying in from Australia was fantastic!

Staff were super nice and we loved the relaxed feel of the hotel. The room was a great size with a empty bar fridge we which filled up quickly. The ocean front room had an amazing view, just watch out for the stairs to the balcony! We had room service one night and it was quick and the food great value.

I loved the pool, it was a good size and the water slides were fun. The towels closed early however and the waterside closes at 6.30 which was annoying, you spend all day sightseeing and want to relax in the pool in the evening.

The grounds were fantastic, so lush and green, I loved just wondering around the paths.

The hotel isn't near much, about a 15min drive into town so I'd suggest a car if you're staying here, plenty of parking which was free.

I'd stay here again if I was ever on the island.

We were there in late August and were really impressed with the incredible value the resort offered. For the price of a cheap hotel back home near the airport, the Sheraton offered nice rooms, a great pool, fantastic lush grounds and wonderful free breakfast buffets at their Kai restaurant. To top it off they waived the daily resort charge as i'm a Starwoods Gold member. For SPG members going to the Big Island this is a no brainer stay! While we also stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort on Maui, it was twice the price but definitely not twice as good. This was a much better value.
