Just returned stateside from our Hawaiian vacation. We spent five days and four nights at the Holua Resort. It was truly a quiet resort tucked at the end of the road. The Hilton was next door and we could hear their luau on two different nights but that was about as noisy as it got. My 10 yr son really enjoyed having his "own pool", actually, there is a smaller pool and spa about every two sections for the vacationers to enjoy. We had a two bedroom for myself, my son and my Aunt and Uncle. There was plenty of room for all of us. The bedrooms were at ground level and we walked upstairs to the living/dining/kitchen area. I loved the fabulous green and blue island flair interiors. Spent mornings on the lani that overlooked the golf course and the edge of the ocean. Note that this resort is not "on" the ocean but you can see it about a couple of hundered feet away. The Keauhou Shopping Center is a couple of miles back up the coast with a longs drug, a KTA (groceries), a Subway, a pizza place, a restaruant/bar a movie theater among many others. On Friday's the shopping center has free entertainment and cultural demonstrations. We purchased meat to grill on one of many grills that the resort offers near the pools. We ate several meals in the fully stocked kitchen. We also ate out at the Big Island grill in Kona and Island Breeze Luau. I wish I had known that we would have a washer and dryer in our villa, I wouldn't have packed as much. One thing to note is that you park in a parking garage and walk the "trails" to your villa. On the one hand it helps keep the resort really quiet on the other hand it mignt not be for you if you have difficulties walking.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Houla Resort. We will go back and stay again in the next few years. I would highly recommend this resort.

We stayed here the week of Jul 2nd-9th, 2005. It was our first visit and we fell in love with the island/area/resort/etc. The Holua Resort was great - breath-taking flowers all over the resort. The two-storey units were spacious (we had 4 adults there). Our lanai (balcony) over-looked the golf course, which was nice. There are a number of small pools - which we barely used as we were out and about on the island during the day. There are BBQ's scattered around the property that you can use (but they are a little on the crusty side). The only complaint I had was that the great tennis facilities (which are rarely used) were $10/person/hour - no wonder they are not used. I cannot understand why this is not included in the exchange - it's too bad because we would have loved to utilize the courts - but not at $20/hour for 2 people. As previous posters have mentioned - it was a little trek from the parking lot to the units (to move all of your bags in and out), but the resort have bell boys who will give you a lift on their olf carts. Other than that it was an amazing place to stay - and I hope we can go back soon.

We stayed on the Big Island and own vacation time with Shell Vacations Club - the Holua Resort is one of their properties and we thought we'd give it a look, especially with all the other glowing reviews on TripAdvisor.

Well I have to say, we agree. I went with my wife and 2 y daughter and it was wonderful. I really like the setup - we had a roomy 2 bedroom 2.5 bathroom place that could have accomodated at least 3 families easy. We like the two-story townhouse setup - the bedrooms are on the first floor, the kitchen/living room upstairs. The decor is award winning, and we agree - the cool blues and greens mirror our ocean view, which overlooks the greens of a golf course. Very apropos.

Everything is spacious and clean. The refrigerator, stove, and cabinets were spotless. All the dishes and silverware were in great condition. The place is very quiet and secluded, maybe a 5 minute walk from the parking garage but in this paradise, it's worth taking the time to walk in the weather! The resort is about 10 minutes' drive from Kailua-Kona.

Resort staff were very courteous and went above/beyond the call of duty - we checked in at 11 PM and the night clerk was very polite, drove us and our luggage to the place on a golf cart. I'd love to go back again - it's a shame we only stayed 3 nights!!
