“Casa de Emdeko Unit 199”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Arriving in the dark, the first thing you realize is the waves are crashing against the shore mere feet from your condo! That's pretty cool! Location is awesome and the ocean is mesmerizing. We spent a good amount of time watching the tide and walking along the rocky shoreline looking at crabs and little creatures caught in the pools.

This particular unit is very nice...2B/2B and "lots" of room! The only reason I didn't make this a 5-star rating; and it is minor, is that this is a first floor condo near the pool and right on the ocean! Other guests walk by or swim in the pool and glance over occasionaly. There are privacy walls but it would be nice to be up higher but I am sure you pay more as well.

The other thing to remember with these properties is that there are no restaurants on site. So, if you are eating out or want to cook your own meals...it is just fine!

There were some minor issues with the property but important. If you are renting a condo (not a hotel room) you have to expect things may be a little older. On the other hand, this unit hand WIFI, washer/dryer and cable. And, the kids liked having their own room!

I would not hesitate to stay at this property or 199 in particular...it is very nice!

Room Tip: This is a first floor room. Positives are you feel like you are right next to the water. The negat...

KONAAWESOMECONDO----Totally wonderful! Everything was just beautiful and exactly as described! We were there for 2 weeks and of course we wanted to stay longer. The condo is well stocked and the gift basket waiting on us was such a treat! We saw whales and dolphins out in the horizon and sat for hours enjoying the views. Would recommend to anyone...you won't be disappointed!

Starting with the complex: The landscaping is beautiful. Two exceptional pools, especially the one next to the ocean. It does not get better than this. The outdoor cooking area was excellent. The view from the room was fabulous and close to water. Watched a whale come very near shore and saw it from the room.
The room: The storm door when entering was broken and would not shut. It needs to be replaced. The light in closet had a broken balest and it was wired through the wall to the laundry closet with no switch (not sure about code on that one). That light did not work also so the closet and laundry were somewhat dark.
The bed and headboard needed replacing. The mattress was very low quality although may not have been that old. The headboard was tacky and we had to put towels between it and the wall because it swayed so much and constantly banged against the wall.
Condo was smaller than all the other complexes we have stayed at although it was acceptable.
The living area, kitchen, and bath were all very nice. Cabinets were older but was dressed up with the nice counter and everything was there for cooking and entertaining.
We loved the complex and would pick it again in the future. If push came to shove and we needed a place and a better unit was not available at this place then I would rent the unit again. We actually rated it a 3.5 star but that option was not available for rating and we did not think it was worth a 4 star.
Sunquest Vacations was excellent about calling us back and replacing the burned out light bulb in the shower and they were very attentive with questions and information. We were a repeat customer of theirs.

Room Tip: If you want to walk into town it would be a bit far. I believe it was around 1.5 miles to the villa...

We stayed in Unit 125 at Casa de Endeko..Awesome Kona Condo.for 3 weeks. We rented this condo because it had excellent reviews and the owner is very helpful. We were disappointed because we found the condo dark..it is on the ground floor. But again we got a good deal, the kitchen is so well stocked no need to even buy saran wrap and the cook ware is better than mine, coffee grinder and even a pizza cutter. There is a communal washer/dryer nearby.
The grounds are well kept,2 pools and we spent our time by the salt water pool listening to the sound of the surf on the rocks below the spray. People we met have been coming to this complex for up to 40 years so it has a lovely feeling of community.

Room Tip: Higher floors closer to the beach would have better sea view. Complex is set far back from road so...

Our stay was wonderful and the condo was better than I imagined! The gardens were lovely, too, and my husband, son, and I really enjoyed the beach and pool in the evenings. We tried the Hulihuli chicken Janice suggested and it was great! Also really appreciated the treat basket she left for us and the complimentary lunch at Quinns...soo good! The fish and chips was excellent. We got to see many great sights conveniently from KonaAWESOMEcondo's location...took in about the whole island plus walked the downtown strip of beach shops and restaurants. The kitchen was perfectly stocked for all the cooking we did. Also, all of Janice's tips for seeing and eating on the island came in great handy! An excellent hostess, I can't recommend KonaAWESOMEcondo enough. We look forward to staying at KonaAWESOMEcondo again in the future!

Room Tip: Unit 123 was ground level next to a lovely fountain with many colorful birds singing in the lush gar...

Our first visit to Kona and what a wonderful experience. The condo was totally no "hassle", clean, full of all amenities needed including all the picnicking, beaching and snorkeling necessities. It was our most relaxing week in many years. Breakfast in the patio so easy with a kitchen full of everything you needed. Food shopping was very convenient and fun because we tried all these new fruits and made wonderful fruit salads. Packed lunches out and dinner out or bbq by the pool The grounds are beautiful, it is very quiet and we enjoyed our bbq fish outside by the saltwater pool overlooking the sunsets. Other people were there, families, very friendly sharing their day's outings and recommending places to go. While my husband napped I enjoyed afternoon swims in both pool. It was so enjoyable after a morning out fishing, snorkeling or just sight seeing. We walked to the farmer's market for fresh coffee and papaya juice. Walked to town for dinner, listened to music in a couple of restaurants and took an overnight trip to Volcano - what an experience! A must for anyone who just needs to "get away".

Room Tip: All good rooms. Because building is set back from the highway there is no noise.

If you're heading to the Big Island then KonaAWESOMEconda will make your stay unforgettable. From the oceanfront location to the oceanside pool and grills, watching whales pass by and my wife witnessing a most spectacular breach, KonaAWESOMEcondo seems a special place. We stayed in Janice's #125 condo right near the second pool in the complex middle. The next day we arrived we filled her coolers with our drinks & lunch and basically grabbed the boogie boards, snorkel gear, sturdy umbrella, straw mats, and beach towels from Janice's condo - KonaAWESOMEconda was ready for us day 1 to hit Kahulu'u Park for some of the best snorkeling just 10min south. Our kids each day always looked forward to coming back and swimming in both pools. The beautiful well kept grounds and singing birds played host when we spent time together on our lanai. We all enjoyed talking with the manager Andy who cares for casa de emdeko as his own, and gave us a great tip on where to get Sushi. At night we'd head down to the oceanside pavillion to sing along with Sean and Jeff from Alaska and others - Sean strumming his guitar and singing with style against the background of the sun's light slipping away into the stars as the surrounding torches took over and swayed with the palm trees in the warm gentle breeze, always hearing the ocean's water washing against the shore. Sean and his guitar will probably be back in Alaska by the time you land but who knows who you'll get to meet. Throughout my time on this Big Island I realized why Janice calls her place KoneAWESOMEcondo. Thanks Janice, Bruce...
